What part of AZ? My father lives in Sun Lakes and I'm planning a visit to him. I was hoping the thrift stores there would have more than my local ones.
Hi Latetotheparty, as a matter of fact, I was going to post about results today - wanted to wait until it was ompletely dry and had put three coats (2 Leather Tx and 1 Blackrocks) so it took 5 days! Well, mixed results - it did lighten if not erase most of the pen marks (again they were thin lines, not blots) but it also lightened the panel I used it on - not dramatically and it is inside, under the flap so not too bummed out.

As far as the lining with the ink blots on the Roswell stachel - it worked great - ink is gone. But, of course, I was agressive and scribbed the h**l out of it!

I am dying to see what you do to that Roswell satchel. How are you dealing with the rips in the lining?

I live in Tucson, and I hit up the the thrift shops frequently, I've only found one in two months, and they wanted 50 bucks, that is no bargain, especially for a basic small black bag, which was a mess.
Most thrift shops overprice them. I don't even see any Coach where I live. It is rare to see real leather. If they get a Wilson's leather bag, they put it in a glass case.

The only sort of good deal I got near where I live was a leather Legacy bag at a consignment store. They had the signature factory stuff priced higher than the Legacy, which originally sold for $700.

The best selection I have found is at Savers stores. They don't have any near me but I try to visit them when I leave the state.

Haha! Whateve, you give me more "know how" than I deserve, trust me! I was going to ask you gals what you thought....it is now CLEAN but has rips...I will post pics in a bit...to be honest, I can live with the rips if I have to...my philosphy about the vintage bags is that they are bound to not be "perfect" and I'm not going to drive myself crazy trying to make them that way......but, it would be nice to be able to repair the rips if it is easy enough...I will post in a bit..

I found this baby (Coach 4157) at Savers last week. It was not zip tied with their other "valuable" bags, but was hanging with the junky bags. Anyway, it was marked $19.99 but I had a 30% off coupon and so I got it for $14. It's stamped FS on the flap, so I believe it's a factory second, but the only thing I could find wrong was a tiny spot on the bottom, which I vanquished with a dot of acrylic paint. It was in new condition, but I washed it anyway, and it looks great with just a couple coats of Lexol.

How nice!!...and a great price! Soho Buckle bags are a nice size, etc.

oohhh...love it - the color is so rich - gorgeous! I ahve two Savers near me and for the most part, I've had luck. On the other hand, I've seen some fakes for 30 bucks there!

Okay, here is my red Patricia Legacy - I'm pretty happy with the results...some very faint ink lines left but nothing that would keep me from wearing the bag. I did the usual wash with warm/almost hot water and Dawn. I used the new stuff I talked about earlier, SoilLove on the ink lines inside, under the flap and it got rid of most of them, slightly lightening the leather, I think. Stuffed, let dry for 24 hours, coat of Leather Cpr, another 24 hours, coat of Leather Tx, another 24 hours and Blackrocks...felt pretty tacky last night and was afraid I overdid the conditioning (I tend to use too much of a good thing sometimes;)) but feels fine now.

Thanks, ladies! I'm happy with it, too....love the size and the color! I do think the Soilove works (I actually used a scrubby sponge and soilove to get the ink off - aggressive, yes but it is an inside pocket)....but I would've used a little less and maybe no scrubby for an outside flap or pocket, probably..it definitely works for the lining....will post the Roswell satchel pics now......almost takes as long to take the pics, post them in flickr and then post them in here as it does to rehab the bag in the first place!!!

Here is the Roswell Satchel....really beat up bag but I got it for a good price on ebay and I think it is so unique....can see myself wearing next Fall when the air starts getting crisp and cold, here in New England.....again, I used the SoilLove and scrubbed the heck out of the lining with a scrubby sponge. As I posted before, the SoilLove literally lifted up a pool of ink a second after I poured it on the lining (see pic)....then, I did the usual - warm/hot water with Dawn, this bag was really dirty pebbled leather...I actually took a scrubby to it (the scrubby sponge was somewhat worn down though , not new out of the package) so I could get the dirt off....gave it two baths and then a good, long soak/rinse. I let it dry for 24 hours, then went right to the Leather Therapy because this bag was DRY, especially near the handles area....waited 24 hours, then another Leather Tx rub, another 24 hours and then BlackRock.....it drank it all in...In general, I am happy with the bag....you can see some discoloration around the handle area but I am thinking that is more the patina? If that is the case, I am happy with it and it gives character to the bag. the lining is ripped, but not sure there is much I can do about that...I can live with it...:)

Thanks! I was just lucky to find such a nice little bag. I didn't really do much to it.

Thanks! Your two rehabs look great - I especially like the red one. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to find one of them. In our area it seems like I find old Coach bags at Goodwill more often than Savers.
