I have a legacy duffle, and my plan in case it every develops that kind of wear is to use a colored Meltonian cream polish, plus Bick (which is like Lexol, but nicer and with less residue). If that doesn't work I believe people sometimes recommend an acrylic paint (?) but Meltonian is much less scary.

That's what I've been using to restore a vintage bag and it works wonders in restoring color slowly and gently. One of these days I will post that project :)

Hello. Can you tell me where to find "BICK"? Do you really like this over say Apple? Can you use these products, Bick, Lexol, and Apple conditioner, on the bags after they have been Apple Stain protected?

I am really upset that Coach will sell conditioning products with silicone that actually dries out your leather bag in the long run. IT EXPLAINS why, my now vintage, NY 1992 Duffle Sac in British Tan looks so dried out and crappy. I faithfully used the Coach conditioner every year since 1992 on it! I can't wait to use some of these products mentioned. Rehabbing my own personal bag!!!

Thanks!

I got the Bick either on Ebay from the seller Nordshoe, or on Amazon. The Bickis a white cream that sinks right in, think it would be fine over Apple.

I have used Blackrock on my legacy bags. I used it on my signature Rory for protection. And, there was a little color loss on my duffle and my Candace. So, I rubbed just a dab on the corners and they are good as new.:D

Very good to know! When my bank account recovers from this last FOS, I will look into getting a legacy duffle with "issues" and see how it works out.

Hi! Go to the top of this page and under "Search this thread", type in "remove verdigris" or something like that and you'll find posts about it....I use the search all the time - it is great! Good luck!

KateV did a posting on verdigris in this thread somewhere. I'll try to find it, but meanwhile, I just did a bag full of verdigris and it MOSTLY came off. I am still working on it in stages. The hardest part is the stained leather-I haven't gotten that fixed yet. For the brass, I just had to use a toothbrush, qtips, tooth pick, and lots of pieces of clean scrap soft cloth, and I made a paste of vinegar and baking soda and put coat after coat onto the verdigris'd brass and just used muscle power to wipe off what I could with clean cloths, and you pretty much have to pick it off with toothpick etc. I did a lot of this DURING it's bath dunking so I could just keep rinsing off the work I'd done and see what I had to deal with as I went along. If you are worried about over dunking, you can do the verdigris paste thing first and then clean & rinse the bag later. I am also going to google this some more because I want to figure out a faster or better way if there is one. But the paste mentioned above is safe and gentle for starters.

Hi everyone, I had a question for you rehabbing experts: Do you think this is salvageable at all??
I inwardly cringled seeing that and reading the description :( This poor poor purse...

Item Description: "Bag does have discoloration due to spilling soda on it. Instead of taking to leather cleaner my daughter tried to clean with water- then tried soaking. The result is leather is hard and is discolored. If you ask me, it actually adds to the charm of the bag and makes it look weathered. There are also a couple of diet spots on interior of bag. Please see all pictures. Bag has scratches on back where she stubbed to get soda off. Please ask questions."

Not my auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-65TH-...219?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item1c311031e3

I think even her starting price is too high for a bag in that shape. I have never rehabbed a Legacy, but I would want to dunk and do massive conditioning. It's stiff because it is so dry. I imagine it could always be dyed...

I agree with chowlover2. Her price is way too high. I'm worried that she said her daughter already tried soaking. I would have thought soaking would have removed the soda. I can't understand why that would have made it hard.

Yes, I know for a bag in such poor condition that it is really high. I was wondering if the purse itself had any chance at a new life. I just saw it and was like "Oh no! What did she do to that?!" But thank you both :)

It would be one thing if she started it at like $20. Then would be worth a chance rehabbing. I sold a Coach Hamptons bag a few weeks back as is, and it was in great condition for only $50. The problem with mine was color transfer on the back panels. I tried everything, so finally sold. That bag is in sad shape.

;)THANKS SO MUCH..Ive removed the strap..elbow grease vinegar & baking soda(my go to mixture for most gunk..)cleaned up the hardware..I havent washed the bag yet..its an off white..NYC..looks like Cashin to me..I'm hoping that giving the bag a good bath will get rid of the verdigris..its not severe..but it is slimey..it appears to have some ink on it or maybe its just the V. anyway, working with an off white bag will be interesting..I paid 21 bucks so whatever I can clean off..shouldnt be too disasterous..who knows ?it may have been white ~white?THANKS AGAIN!! Sheri :smile1::smile1:

Be very careful. If it is ink, it will spread if you dunk it.
