Is there any way to tell if it's conditioner?
I don't know but most dirt would be brown, wouldn't it?

True. The water was dark brown for the first washing. I thought maybe the issue was a previous owner smoked around it, I know that can stain things yellow as well. Not sure if anyone's rehabbed bags that haven't been in a smoke-free environment.I don't know but most dirt would be brown, wouldn't it?
And here are the afters. There are still some areas of dullness along the piping, but it looks much better.
Katev - What a great idea! I came across a Wilson bag at Savers the other day and I was thinking it was made well, too. I will have to keep my eyes out because the Coach fobs are soooo expensive and I need a strap for one of my Coach basic bags (burgundy and the strap was lost according to the seller) and I was thinking of using a chain from a thrift store bag after seeing one of your posts! Great ideas you have!!They had grand openings for 2 new Goodwill stores in my area this weekend so of course I had to go to both of them! Sadly I didn't find any great new bags. I was tempted by a black murphy bag for $20 but I really don't need another small, black vintage bag to add to my rehab pile, so I left it behind.
I only bought 1 item, this small, pink wilson leather bag for $4. It is well-made but dirty and ink-stained and you have to fight with the zipper to get it closed, but that's okay because I don't plan to rehab it!
I bought it for the hardware! Holy smokes, you could tow a car with this detachable trigger snap chain strap! And the zipper pull is a cute heart-key shape and there is a heart-lock charm on the front of the bag. I am sure that I could make them into great fob charms. The heart charm has some scratches on it but I am sure it will shine right up with my dremel!
I don't have any need for the hardware right now but the next time I find a small bag with gold hardware and without a strap - this little bag might come in handy!
I am going to keep my eyes open for Wilson bags at the thrift store from now on. They are nicely made, quality bags and they might be a good supply source for missing parts!

Perfect idea! That heart is so cute!
Okay, here goes...we've been having lots of fun this morning. Just bought this nightmare yesterday and both BeenBurned and Hyacinth agree it's genuine...and it's a genuine mess...what was I thinking? Likely to be my first washing machine experiment.

She's had a pretty serious kitchen sink scrub and is stuffed and drying. I'm using a toothbrush and wash cloth as she dries, but it's just too soon to tell whether she needs a trip to the laundry room. I'll keep you all posted...wish me luck...I think I'm gonna need it!

Thanks! Sometimes you find chain hardware that is very brassy and flimsy and light-weight. I often wonder if they are plastic instead of metal. But a well-made, quality chain strap with some weight to it can be a nice alternative for a missing strap
I know! I immediately thought - I'll have to do something creative with these cuties!
She's a beauty! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
fingers crossed. The adventure continues...yesterday's sink wash didn't cut it! So this morning I gave her an overall toothbrush scrub with a product called Folex. It's a non-petroleum spot remover usually used for carpet. Then I gave the trouble spots a scrub with 2X Ultra All Oxi-active Stainlifter laundry liquid, put her in a pillowcase and gave her a ride in the washer with the remaining All. She's stuffed again and sitting in the sun on my lanai. The trouble spots look better after a little dry toothbrush scrubbing. We'll see as the day progresses.

I recently bought a non-coach bag just for the tassel - paid $1.00 and matches my Courier Pouch perfectly!
