I would maybe go over it with a washcloth before its completely dry? I don't think it matters a lot but it seems like it would work better.

And yes they do get stiff bit just like when you hang clothes to dry they soften up with use. It would be great if there were some way to condition suede but as far as I know there isn't.

Glad it came clean for you and hope it doesn't fade too much. It looks really nice!

Really pretty! Did it fade out very much?
well. if you go by the look of the water in the washer....YES! But....not really...it was lighter than the lining to begin with, probably the color of the first pcture (wafter wash, when wet) so it did fade but not that bad....definitely worth the wash! Thanks for all of the advice and encouragement debi!

Thanks Ledobe and thanks for being "aggressive" with your suede bags - it encouraged me to do the same which is what this bag needed. I was thinking that going over it before it was fully dry might "soften" it up so I will try...also, wearing it will help, like you said. thanks!

Hi everyone! I have read and read and am more confused now as to what brand of oil I should buy for my extremely dry bags....I've got a City bag that is sooooo dry - over three days, I've applied two coats of Leather Cpr and a coat of BlackRocks tonights and the flap, especially is so dry the inside feels like sandpaper.....so, people have suggested emu oil, mink oil, Montana oil and then Leather Therapy Oil. I looked that up and found Leather Therapy Restorer and Conditioner - is that the same thing? Can people give me advice on the best oil for an extremely dry handbag? Thanks!!!!

Yes, that's the right stuff. I've never had to use more than 3coats to get things up to snuff though.

oh, thanks! I was looking for somehting with oil in the title and couldn't find it. So, this is good for the extremely dry bags?

I think so. I've never used Leather Therapy. I've used mink oil because I already had some. Someone recommended neetsfoot oil and Tetondeb used the Montana oil with success.

this first one is last night right after the three times through the washer machine:

the last three I just took - it is about 3/4 dry - all os the black stains are gone and the pen marks are gone or very light....as you can see, the bag is lightening up as it dries but the color is still pretty - not sure the camera does it justice...

It feels dry and rough to my fingers which is what it should feel like, I assume. 'm hoping that after I brush it when it is dry, it will feel softer? All in all, I am quite pleased because that was one DIRTY bag!!! and the hardware and strap look great - no harm even though I put them through the spin cycle three time!!!

Wow, that looks great. I have a suede wristlet and a vintage suede bag that I have already rehabbed and you've got me thinking that maybe I should put them through the washer a few times to get them looking even better. I'm scared though.

Hey guys! I'm new here, and I have just purchased a pre-loved Coach Court Bag 9870 from eBay... I'm finding ways to sanitize it the best way there is possible and remove the smoke smell inside. Please help! Any suggestions ladies? It would be much appreciated!

Beautiful! Excellent job-congrats!

Your briefcase is stunning! Everyone who participates on this board knows the effort you put into the rehab. Kudos to you.....

I didn't start rehabbing until last spring and have already used 2/3 of a jar of Blackrocks, 2 refill sized jugs of Leather CPR and I'm on my 3rd bottle of Bick 4 (which btw is terrific for delicates & exotics) I use the Bick4 on all pebbled leathers as it is thin and doesn't leave a residue as well as light bags as it does not darken leather.

Thanks sooo much for your comments!

My next rehab will be a true test of my skills. I have to wait for the sun to come up - and temperatures rise - before I can take photos to post to AT thread. All I'll say at this moment is that I bought a hot mess of a tan suede bag, but having read everyone's suede successes, I'm armed and ready to take this one on!

Wow. .. Just wow! Lucky you!

tetondeb: THANKS!
socmoe: WOW, WOW and MORE WOW! I'll be tackling my very first suede rehab later today. Between your and ledobe's (and everyone else's) advice here, I know I can do it! Watch for my posts...gotta ******************!

At long last, she’s finished! This one was a real challenge to bathe as at 17” long, she just didn’t fit in my kitchen sink. But by rotating and flip-flopping a lot, she got a nice sudsy Dawn bath and toothbrush scrub. Considering she’s from 1994, there were no major issues...thankfully. Stuffed her, conditioned with Leather CPR, cleaned the brass with Brasso and polished and finished her off with Blackrocks. Oh yeah, and nice, new black edges on strap, hangtag and zipper edges with acrylic applied with a sponge-tip makeup applicator. I’m gonna love using this briefcase!

BTW: Has anyone noticed the change in Blackrocks packaging? Gone is the Indian Chief, replaced with a nice looking young man in a leather jacket. More importantly, has anyone noticed a difference in the product itself? The first one I bought when I joined this crazy (:)) group (about a year ago...happy anniversary to me) was much stickier...more wax-like. The new one is much creamier and much easier to apply. Seems to sink in more quickly too. I like it much better...just sayin’

After her return to glory:

Stunning!! I love that bag!

It is great for extremely dry bags. You may have already seen this rehab but this bag was just shy of dry rotting in places when I found it: And it took A LOT of coats to get the dry leather to start matching the healthier leather that was under the flaps and inside bag, etc.
