Well. .. I'm so new to this that I'm not really one to give advice! I got the "Montana oil"at the recommendation of some old Cowboys lol! The ladies here asked about it so I keep trying it out! I use it as soon as the leather starts drying then when the whole bag is done I finish with the black rocks. I'm seriously addicted to the black rocks! Here's a link to the oil, but like I said. .. I'm new so wait for advice from the pros!

Yikes! You do a GREAT job for a "newbie" - only hope mine come out as good! I'll see what everyone is using for oil and go from there.

Well, I'm in the middle of my 1st rehab and my little black messenger bag is looking marvelous!! It's been about 24 hours and i just applied some Leather CPR and am still drying it out...on to the next project.....a very ambitious one....below are pics of a salmon colored suede duffle (#8A16) I bought off of Ebay which BeenBurned kindly authenticated. It looks like there are pen marks, and lots of black marks that look like someone drove over the bag with their tires? Hope not, but wondering what you ladies think I should do for rehab? Someone (sorry that I cannot remember who - maybe tetondeb or Jessi?) said that I can clean like I do the vintage leather but pull the lining out while drying? Oh, there is good news the lining is......immaculate!:p

Should I pretreat before the soak? any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks!!

OK here is what *I* would do...and I've played with suede a lot, and had some good results but there are no guarantees that this one will work.

I would-spray the bag EVENLY with spray and wash or shout while my washing machine was filling up. I have a front loader but the reason I start the water first is so I can wash the bag right away after treatment. I would probably go over the dirty spots with a toothbrush lightly after spraying but I would do it carefully. You can probably get *MOST* of that dirt out if you scrub it enough but I think no matter what you do you will lose color.

Spray the ink spots with hairspray as evenly as possible-and put the bag in the washer immediately after spraying. I'm convinced that the alcohol dissolves the ink but if you let it dry it just sets the stain. You can also use alcohol but in this case I would try to use light spray so you can treat the suede as evenly as possible to keep it from fading in spots.

I think no matter what you do you are going to have some fading on that bag if you clean it well enough to get all the stains out. If it's obviously dirty when you finish washing I would treat it again and rewash without drying it...drying also helps set the stains.

I think anything involving spot cleaning those spots on that color suede will result in faded areas...I would try to treat an entire panel somewhat evenly even if the whole area is not dirty to prevent fading.

However, I vaguely remember seeing that listing but not a lot of detail. Was all that dirt disclosed? Did you pay a lot for it? You might get lucky and have great results but I think no matter what that bag will fade a little-I suspect the lining will not absorb the color as I've not had that happen but no guarantees.

If you're dealing with undisclosed dirt and you paid a lot for it I would look into returning it...that is a dirty lil suede girl you've got there,

Any suggestions on this one? Keeps getting blotchier

20130212_084815_zps117c7603.jpg

It's been my experience that lighter colored bags are very uneven during drying. Sometimes they look worse than when I started! Much more splotchy and minor flaws are more obvious!

I find that it helps to have faith and just keep doing the right things and giving it the moisturizer and oil that it needs - and then leave it be for awhile! After all the moisture and oil is absorbed, the bags usually look much better! No guarantees but it has happened to me several times!

I bought LeatherCPR at Tuesday Morning today - thanks for that tip, Katev! I also purchased Lexol but they only had Lexol Auto Care 3 in 1 leather cleaner...here is a link....http://www.amazon.com/Lexol-3-Leather-Care-Spray/dp/B002ZBPX1S
has anyone used this kind on their handbags? It says not recommended for suedes, extremely soft leathers or other non-leather surfaces......if not I can return, no big deal. thanks!

I haven't used the auto care but several auto products have proven to be great for bags - wenol metal polish is one example.

If you decide to keep it, I suggest testing it in an area that doesn't show - before deciding to use it on the whole bag.

Let us know how it works out!

I agree! Most darker bags look better when they are wet and while the conditioner soaks in, lighter bags usually look worse. I've had good luck with some lighter bags though I have touched up a bit with acrylic paint once or twice.
