Thank youLedobe!! I will follow your directions and expect fading of color and hope for stin removal. The seller was honest about the dirt and stains, he/she showed many photos....paid 16 and12 shipping, if I remember correctly.....I was just in an ambitious mood, I guess! I'm exctied to get gong on it!

It's such a pretty color, I don't blame you for trying. I have to admit, sometimes I will try a bag just for the challenge.

Here is a link to the blue suede bag I worked on. I love this little bag, it's very handy and comfortable to carry and I use it as my "concert purse" (my other hobby) and it is great for that. I am sure the blue is faded quite a bit from when it was new but it is presentable, IMO.

link just brought me to this page...when u have the chance, would love to see your bag...while at Home depot picking up brasso, I pcked up Dawn (original scent), would you advise me to use that vs Woolite since bag is so dirty? If so, is it safe for my machine (regular not front loader)....or am I overthinking this which is entirely possible! ;)

I agree! Most darker bags look better when they are wet and while the conditioner soaks in, lighter bags usually look worse. I've had good luck with some lighter bags though I have touched up a bit with acrylic paint once or twice.

Thanks for the encouragement you two...I'm hopeful...it's such a cute little bag...it may be one for the failure box with my little red dinky that now rubs red dye on anything that it touches :(

I don't think you should use Dawn in a washing machine. Isn't it too sudsy?

Please learn from my very bad mistake and never use Dawn in a washing machine or a dish wager! Trust me. .. You will be cleaning suds for days off of your floor and may even have to replace your mother board on your washing machine lol... If something can be broken. ..I have done it!

thanks - knew it was a no no for the dishwasher....will NOT use in washer...I think I will try the washer with woolite first (pretreat, etc.) and then try dawn and kitchen sink if that doesn't work....this is fun! can't believe I did this but bought another bad rehab project at Savers ...white city bag that is quite dirty and the brass had the green stuff on it (forgot what you call it)...I'll do research on cleaning that baby after I finish this suede one..

OMG... That's it. .. I'm re-washing my blue suede one and my stinky taupe one in the washer! I tried hand washing and they are nice but not nearly that nice!

As always, no guarantees on the results. On the one hand, you can almost treat suede like a gentle fabric, depending on hardware and other details. On the other hand, you have to be careful about fading.

No matter what you decide, good luck!

Thanks! I still have the stinky one sealed up in a bag with charcoal!

Different bag and topic.... What do you guys recommend for bulging piping plastic. I have a penelope satchel that the plastic is trying to escape on.

The shearling bag went through the washer more times than I can remember. I was anle to get most if the stains out with one or two washings, but she was also perfumey so I tried various things to destink her.

I am sure I used tide on both bags. I saturated the shearling bag with shout. Again, I wasn't worried about fading with that one. I used shout on the blue also but I was a little more gentle.

If you pretreat, I would say try to do everything evenly so if it does fade, it does so evenly. Also I scrubbed it with wash cloth after spraying.

I'm a pretty aggressive rehabber so use your own judgement. I just think that stains are less likely to set if you go after it the first time around. I think letting the bag dry in between attempts can cause the stains to set.
