Happy Valentine's Day Ladies!! Got a doosey on my hands and a damn good man I might add! So apparently DH is more attentive and thoughtful than I thought and my V-Day gifts are a direct link to my new found rehab hooby! But ohhhh boy he found a tough one! I hope you ladies can help me out a bit, its a dooney set not coach so i dont know how familair you'll all be with the fabric and im almost afriad to start!

There is this strange white/cloudy discoloration on all three pieces, mostly where the bag bends perhaps the bag material separating from whatever the outside treatment is. Its almost vinyl feeling (blah) any ideas what this is what caused it or HOW TO FIX IT!!!

Secondly the shape of the bag has lost ALL intergity its just this floppy mess of dents and creases (certainly not nice coach leather) A dunk and stuff perhaps?

Lastly the leather.... oohhhh the discoloration =/ the straps and the tops and pieces are ten shades different from body oils (ewww typing that... someone elses body oils i need to wash my hands.. again) any chance that will clean? or should i get some oil/conditioner and try to darken it all to match?

DH, is really excited and proud for huntng this down and haggling the price from $60 for the set of three to $20 and has allll the faith in the world i will make it beautiful again =/ yikes! Adorable man, great gesture im actually quite smitten, in a way its sweeter than getting a new bag, because he knows how much fun I'll have, but i cant let him myself or the set itself down lol THE PRESSURE!!!
ANY help is good help!

PS. previous owner must have had cats... im so allergic everytime go near it, my eyes start itching and im miserable LOL

Cute set and a really sweet gesture from your valentine! I don't have much D&B experience but I have been told to surface clean the bags. But I also allergic to cats and you may have to dunk the bags (and surface scrub the watch) to get rid of the dander. Wear gloves and keep the items away from your eyes!

Someone (Jessi?) has experience with Dooneys and may be able to advise you. Good luck!

Thanks! I hoping someone has some idea for me especially on the discoloration of bag and leather, there isnt an awesome board for dooney's like this one!! I know nothing about dooney in regards to rehabs either im just starting to hone my coach skills lol

As long as we are discussing Dooneys. I picked up a cute D&B sig bag at the Goodwill last year for $5. The only problem is that it has developed a yellowish cast on the white bag, see pic below. Does anyone know if there is a way to remove or lighten the yellow color?

On the related topic of the D&B all-weather leather (AWL) bags, this advice came from "dreaming of beautiful dooneys" on the ebay forum:

"Mild soap and water, after you wipe down your bags wipe it again with just water then dry with a clean cloth. DB says not to use leather conditioner or leather oil but I do! I rub my bags very lightly, after all if you dont condition leather it will dry out and crack. The leather used on DB bags is very strong and the only leather I have that has some mild cracks is the original bridle leather bags from the first line of hand bags."

I bought a pretty bag at a great deal (to me) of $90. She does have some issues though. She needs a bath in the worst way and she has some rubbed corners. I'm thinking of attempting to wash it and touch up the corners with acrylic paint. Would it be okay to handwash with dish soap? Are there any warnings with washing metallic? This is my first time and I want to do a good job. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks!

There is a video on youtube where someone removed the patent coating off a leather purse because it was cracked and bubbly. I wonder if there is some way you can remove the plastic coating from the canvas. I don't think there is any way to fix the yellowing or cracking.

I've never washed a metallic bag. I am always afraid to dunk a newer bag. I have pulled out the lining and soaked and scrubbed it. For the exterior, I would just wipe the whole thing with a mild spray cleaner and then use acrylic paint to touch up the corners.

There is a metallic paint the crafts stores sell it, but you rub/buff it on rather than paint, once dried its beautiful. Im sorry i cant remember the name but there is a whole section of it you should be able to find very very close match! Had almost the same issue on a chanel, and if it didnt faze the delecate pain in my rear end a good solid coach should accept it flawlessly!! Good luck!

Thanks! I'm afraid to dunk it too. The lining is getting done for sure. Thanks so much for your help!

I have only dunked Dooney AWL before, and not coated canvas (which this is, yes?). I think, however, that if you are allegic to cats and you are reacting to this bag, the only way you are going to stand a chance of using it is to soak it. I don't think a surface cleaning will be enough to get rid of the allergens.

I probably would *not* scrub at the surface of the bag, because you would run the risk of damaging the coating on the canvas.

Good luck!

Thanks, I'm going to try it! I plan to take the hangtag in with me to compare colors soon. I was going to apply it with one of those spongy thingys in hopes that it will leave the same finish. Thanks so much for your help!

D&B makes some cute watches! A couple of months ago I found a darling D&B watch at the Savers, in perfect working order, for only $7. I cleaned it up and gave it to my SIL, see pics at the link below:

Wanted to let you all know that I have been playing with Leather Master Ink Killer and have found it to be no better than rubbing alcohol :( I was hoping it would be the answer, but it removes a lot of color and it takes a lot of it to remove ink that is more than a trace line. I am still finding the best solution to be "painting" over the ink.
