hi everyone, I need some advice on removing/preventing mold on my city bag.

recently I have seen white spots, and also some green spots, -mold oh no!- appear along the piping. they wipe off with tissue but keep reappearing.

any ideas on how to treat the bag to prevent this from recurring? I tried cleaning n conditioning but the mold still appears.it is humid in my country but I always store the bag away from direct sunlight n keep it dry so I don't know why this keeps happening :(

What color is your bag?

It is really hard to eliminate mold once it is established on a leather item. You can try wiping it down (inside and out) with some non-bleach disinfectants, like lysol or rubbing alcohol or regular nail polish remover. Spot test first in a area that doesn't show.

Some leather oils and conditioners claim to prevent mold, Leather Therapy Restorer is one example. I don't know what brands you have available but there is probably some local leather products that are designed to prevent mold. Maybe you should talk to a local cobbler and ask for advice.

Good luck!

Well, I finished my first rehab last night and here are some before and after pics! I chose an easy one -a black messenger bag that I believe Hyacinth called a "scooter" when she authenticated it. It wasn't crazy dirty but very flat - no shape at all. I washed in woolite, stuffed with towels, let dry, conditioned with Leather CPR a couple of times took off the brass and polished with Brasso and voila - all done and very pretty and it stands up all by itself!:D

Try vodka, supposed to kill mold, and no I am not kidding. I would spray where mold is appearing and place in sunshine.
