Next project!!! Thought my old station bag looked pretty good until I started reading this thread lol!!! It had a lot of dark patches and an ink stain inside...plus some mis-shapeness (my made up word...I'm Southern and can do that). Before and fresh out of it's bath!

couldnt help but chime in. i got my first carrier in the early 82s and when it was no longer usable [although i'm stunned by how you rehabbed that muse; i think i saw it for sale and figured it's useful life was over], started trolling ebay at the suggestion of a friend. i now seem to have collected 5 musettes and 4 carriers. it's gotten just a little out of hand, but i do love these particular bags! in my experience the carrier is better for campus (my life), carries, books, laptop, coffee thermos in back pocket, etc; musette is better for grab & go, just a laptop or ipad, almost like a glorified "purse". the 'muse' is about 2 inches shorter, and 1.5 inches shorter in length, which makes a difference. i know i need to sell off this collection, but then on the other hand, i'm thinking there are worse vices than stockpiling these two styles!!!

I would love to buy another musette, and another carrier in the lighter color so if you have some needing refurbishing and/or looking to sell PM me sometime!

What? You have a stash? I covet these, I would love to find another...just sayin'

created a photobucket heres the images, and believe it or not the pictures DO IT JUSTICE!!

I have a similar bag. I haven't been able to get all the stains off the fabric. I don't have any suggestions for you. How did you get the leather looking good? Mine is natural colored vachetta and there is a stain on the bottom that I can't get rid of.

Ashamed to admit i started this rehab BEFORE i studied up on this thread. Since i paid so little for the bag i played it a bit risky (i now know) After scrubbing my brains out on the fabric i figured what the heck.... Douced in 409 All purpose cleanser, rubbed in with my finger tips, then dawn dish soap with quick scrub to mix it all up and penitrate the leather then right into the washer machine on warm load with a 20 minute presoak! imagine my panic after i starter reading the thread and thought for SURE i wrecked her! lol Whew! Leathers BEAUTIFUL spot less and supple havent even conditioned it yet! Not going to bother unless someone has an idea on how to remove what ever gumfucaruckus is all over her fabric

I just got a unique bag, the one with the Great Seal imprinted on it. ($19! What a deal!)
But the brass on it is just ICKY. Like, green globs. If it were any bigger chunks, it could probably be a keyfob. That's how gross the brass is.

I don't have any brass cleaner, but a little googling... and you know what works? KETCHUP. Seriously. I took a Q-tip, dabbed a little over the green chunks and let it sit while I moved the laundry over, came back and started to rub it. It slid right off!

The brass looks like new. And there's no ketchup smell either. Just thought I'd throw that out there for y'all, maybe you don't have Brasso and aren't able to run to the store. Try ketchup!

Here is a little Casino bag I found at Goodwill for $4. It is missing the strap and hangtag, so I'll have to stalk thrift stores to try to find a replacement strap. I am hoping this will satisfy my want for a Penny bag, (I just can't get my head around spending that much on such a small bag). I will one day replace the turnlock, because what I thought was just tarnish is actually pitting. There is serious scuffing on the corners, so I may end up buying some black leather refinisher for this one. I'll see what Blackrocks does for it first.

Thanks. I think whatever stained my leather pitted it too so it might be beyond hope. I've already washed it. At this point I think it is all about camouflage. Mine only has a few spots on the fabric. I think I might try to cover that with thinned out paint.

You probably know this already, but Coach customer service will send you a free replacement turnlock kit and a free hangtag.

Oh yeah? I don't have to send the bag in? I was considering cannibalizing an old cell phone case for the turnlock, but if Coach will send me one, that's even better.

No, they will send replacement kits for the typical, vintage turnlocks in brass or silver for free. Sometimes you can get one from the boutiques too.

Just call CS and give them the style number, color leather and hardware for the bag and ask for a new hangtag and a turnlock kit. Occasionally you encounter a customer service rep that doesn't know what you are talking about, so you may have to explain or call back later.

The time it takes for JAX to mail these items to you will vary. Sometimes I get them in a few days and other times it takes a month! But they are genuine and free so I figure, what's the rush?!

Black, unlined gloved tanned bags are very forgiving and I think your little bag will rehab well.

The missing strap is always the hard part. When you are looking for a replacement also keep your eyes open for an inexpensive bag with a detactable gold chain strap. That might work well on a small bag. Some chain straps are very flimsy and light-weight but others are better quality and have some weight.

Here are pics of a sonoma sling that I rehabbed. It is a wallet or wristlet that originally came with a long, thin leather strap. I found a chain strap for it and I am happy with the result.
