Image shack likes to decide for me how to orient my otherwise properly laid out photos GRRR.

The inside didn't need much work but I did a layer of Tandy Leather Weld and will do a bit more on the very edge soon. Otherwise, this was just day after day, one application each day of Leather Therapy Oil. After 2 weeks of that I included a little Fiebings 4 way, Obenaufs, and BlackRocks. It STILL is absorbing therapy oil so I know I could keep going.

WOWZA! what a difference . please don't forget to show us when she's finished . Did you say that one is a Carrier? I'd love to see a size comparison with your Musette some time if you get a chance .

I wasn't expecting any miracles and I didn't get any lol! Unless you consider the red not bleeding a miracle! It's still wet, but I can't really tell a difference. .. We will see in the morning!

Oops!

There is no need to dunk the bag unless it is misshapen and I can see that it isn't. Leather CPR is my favorite conditioner for most bags but if you already have a conditioner, you can use it. Blackrock is great and helps waterproof the leather. It will most likely even out the color and help the edges. In my experience, any darkening is temporary. It isn't difficult to use if you remember to use it sparingly. The best way is to put it on a smallish area and wipe off immediately with a paper towel before moving to another area. If you want to really waterproof the leather, some people use Obenauf's as the final step. I have used Wenol so I don't know how that will affect the leather. Someone here used adhesive plastic wrap to protect the leather while polishing.

Thank you, Whateve, for answering all my questions! Oh, I am so glad I do not have to wash the bag. I only have Weiman Leather Wipes (I actually have them for our leather couches) that I did use on the bag, but I really have not noticed much of a difference after using them. That is why I am trying to decide what other conditioner to get. Thank you for your recommendation of Leather CPR. It also sounds like Blackrock might do some waterproofing which is a nice bonus in addition to even out color. I am going to follow your tips for applying Blackrock and Wenol.

looking at the condition of the bag from your photos, and seeing the brass, it almost looks like it was cleaned and polished before you got it. And may just need maintenance. So, yes, a little leather cpr and/or blackrocks on the piping and the occasional touch up of the brass with either a brass polishing cloth (less gloppy mess but milder in results) or I use Weimans, Wrights, Brasso, they all work. The beautiful thing about this type of old Coach leather is, it can be protected with Obenaufs, etc. but the leather can be wiped off after it gets hit with rain, and generally if it hasn't soaked through , causing the dye to "run" and make a water mark, they are pretty hardy in all kinds of weather.

Thank you, Jessi319, for your reply. The bag was in great condition for vintage. I am just trying to make it even better :) I hope I will see some difference from using Wenol as there are some dark spots on the hardware on the sides of the bag. I will try to take before and after pictures of hardware to report back the difference. If not then I guess I will be polishing brass door handles around the house with Wenol since I bought it to improve my bag. Do you think I can get away with using Blackrock on the entire bag? As I mentioned to Whateve, I only have Weiman Leather Wipes that did not make much of a difference. Do you know if Obenaufs would leave stains on the leather of this color?

You can use Blackrock on the entire bag. Just don't put it on too thick. The Leather Wipes you have are probably more of a cleaner than a moisturizer.

I don't know if it will slightly darken it or not, but if applied evenly, it wouldnt make a big difference and most likely any darkening would be temporary. Obenaufs is used and trusted by owners of Louis Vuitton and I have used it on all kinds of bags so in general it's a great product. And yes, a little Blackrock will work fine too. I sold a tan convertible clutch a while back and I'd rehabbed it first. It looked nice with all of the layers of products needed to get it back in shape including blackrocks. Test a small area and let it sit a day or two before using everywhere if you'd like to make sure. Blackrocks is good to even just use on the scuffed piping only if that's the only part that's needing attention.

The tack shops here carry obenaufs but there are 20 different options! Which is closest to the black rocks?

I am only familiar with this one:
http://www.legendaryusa.com/Product...gdftrk=gdfV25409_a_7c1799_a_7c6830_a_7cOB0102

I like it better in some ways than blackrocks, but their differences are hard to define. Blackrocks seems to diminish scuffs better but takes getting used to since it goes on kind of "sticky" and just needs to be used sparingly and then buffed later for great results. Obenaufs feels nice and smells nice but not sure its as visually dramatic.

Ohhhhh.... Well I need visually dramatic for sure! I'll look around again and order online if I have to.

Question for you. .. The front flap of my dinky is almost like nubuck now. Very soft and supple but scratches like nubuck with the slightest pressure. Is that a phase your bag went through?

almost all of my older, dryer bags, even refurbed ones can scratch easily. If you rub it hard with your fingers the scratches usually buff right back off. This isn't uncommon
