Hello everyone! I just picked up a vintage Madison Pierre that will need a little work. The exterior isn't too bad, but the lining is spotted and has a rip in it. Has anyone dunked one of these before? I searched the thread, but anything I found was about the newer Madisons. Thanks!!

I haven't. I'm afraid that they may have used cardboard to stiffen these. I'm afraid to dunk my Sheratons too even though they don't have stiffening in them.

What? You have a stash? I covet these, I would love to find another...just sayin'
dont know why, but they are a bit of an obsession now. whenever i see one, i have to bid on it and rescue it. its somewhat embarrassing, and i need to sell a couple. i mean, really, how many musettes can a decent person own!! i do have one distressed muse that i was thinking of trying to rehab, but have never done much with a bag other than dunk, condition, etc. if i get daring i will post it for suggestions.

Update on my dinky (I just like saying that lol!)...

The Lexol started having a really weird creamy coating. I started over, redunked it, and I'm now hand applying the Montana oil each morning. It's on day 3 now and becoming really beautiful! The color is starting to be consistent and it's soft and wonderful! Beginning to think there is hope! The Black rocks gets here next week, so I'm just going to keep applying the oil each day and see! Tried to take a clear picture. With flash it looks purple and without it's hard to tell but trust me. .. It's coming along now! Thanks so much for the encouragement and tips!

I gave a bath to a madison carlyle and a sheridan glenwood and they are made of similar materials. They came out great. I would probably try surface cleaning first and pull the lining out as much as possible to spot clean it.

What color is your Pierre, can you post pics?

Right now I have a Rebecca Minkoff bag with a ripped lining. If you think of any good way to repair the lining let me know!

If it keeps looking that good then hold off on the black rocks because it can darken a bag. It's looking great!

It looks absolutely nothing like this pic with the flash but you can see the texture. .. Any suggestions?

Black rocks might give it a shine, even if it darkens it because it contains wax. Also, you have to buff the bag to help bring out the shine, after you give the conditioner time to absorb. A soft cloth will work but I find it easier to use a horsehair brush to bring out the shine.

If nothing works you may have to dye it!

I've dunked a Gramercy which I think is similar construction with a different texture and it did just fine. If you opt to dunk it remember to let it drip upside down as the water will just sit inside like a bucket because the outside is essentially water proof.

I would have dunked my Madisons, had they needed it, I just lucked out.

That's right, I dunked my gramercy too and it was more scary because of the cream suede lining, but it came out just fine.

I think the black rocks will help with the texture but sometimes with an older bag that's just how they are-and that's ok!

Looks like its coming out great though. Congrats!

Thanks! I'm trying not to rehab like I cook. ..I usually can't leave my food alone and end up ruining it lol! I'm keeping this purse in the basement and only look at it twice a day!

I have "gone too far" a few times with rehabs. I keep thinking that I can make it a little better and then it starts looking worse!
