Hi, everybody! Over the last couple of weeks I've become addicted to this thread, all the used, worn bags turning beautiful again like cinderella! :amuse: Seeing all of you have such success gave me some courage to try it out for myself.

I wanted something big and indestructible that I could take to the park with my kids that I wouldn't have to worry about. I found this classic duffel from 1998 on ebay and got it for $65, which I thought was kind of a lot. The listing pictures were with a flash and made the leather look much worse than it actually was, so when the bag arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the bag's condition.

I soaked the bag two times with all free & clear detergent. I used a glass mixing bowl filled with water to keep the bag submerged. My kids thought I was nuts for putting a bag in the sink!! I just told them it was mom's "experiment". I had also turned the bag inside out prior to the soak because I had read here of people brushing the interior of bags to get them really clean. This bag had a well-cared for previous life so it wasn't bad at all. I used a clean plastic-bristled dish brush to clean the inside. I didn't include any bag interior pictures because the bag is HUGE and really dark inside, but it turned out great! The leather before was good, but flat. The bag wouldn't stand up and was really floppy. Just like you guys said, the leather "fluffed" up and the bag stands up great now! These shots, except the one at the park, are of the bag completely empty!

And here's my duffel on its first outing. It's such a sturdy bag, I don't worry about setting it on the sidewalk. I love it!

Looks great! I am waiting on a duffle that I bid on from ebay myself, I think it is the same color but a few years older. Looking at yours makes me wish mine would hurry up already!!!

Beautiful! It looks new! If this is the super large size #9085, then you got a good deal. In good condition, these often go over $100. Look at how much this rare green one sold for: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271088643253?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
I just got one of these in red but I haven't started rehabbing it yet.

I really like this bag and you've done a great job in making her look even more beautiful! :-)

She looks great!

I paid $25 or so. I think it was originally priced at $30 but was marked down or something.

That's really good. I want to get a tassel for mine, the one in the new duffel kits, but they're pretty pricey, especially since I won't be using the strap at all. can't justify getting an accessory that's more $$ than the bag was!
