Some super easy rehab jobs. Not a lot of difference from before or after, because they didn't need much.

My Bleeker wool tweed bucket before. I paid $13.50 for her, and she had her original paperwork and registration card in the pocket. Just a bit flat, some color loss on the bottom piping, and the wool was wrinkled on the back side:

And here she is, dressed up for a day out at the park. I didn't give her a bath, because I wasn't sure what would happen to the wool, and she was in such good shape. I basically just wiped her down, ironed the wool, conditioned with Lexol, Blackrocks to the piping, and declared it done. There's a small ink mark on the lining, but I decided to leave it alone, in case my efforts made a small problem worse. <3 this bag!

This is a great looking bag!!

Another easy one. This was authenticated for me by Hyacinth, as a "Compact Pouch style number 9620 from the mid-1980s". It's a NYC bag, and I was very excited to find it, because it was in such good shape. Pretty much no scuffing anywhere, the edgekote is intact, and the turnlock hardly has any scratches to it. I paid about $30 at Savers, which is more than what I wanted to spend that day, but given the condition of the bag, I decided to go for it. Here she is before, dry and dusty. No hang tag, though. :( Boo:

And here she is after. I gave her a bath just to reshape her a little, (she was only a little squished). I think I am going to give her another conditioning, because she still feels a little dry, but already her color is much richer.

So pretty! The color is so rich and deep! Great job. I love the tweed Bleecker too! I just washed my Bleecker and now I kind of wish I hadn't because it is hard to get the shape perfect. It has some minor spots outside that didn't wash off so the bath didn't do anything. The inside suede was the softest I have ever felt and the leather smell on this bag was amazing! It isn't dry yet, but the smell seems to be gone along with the soft suede.

Very nice handbags and very good rehab job. Congratulations on finding such nice pieces to enjoy. I always love the vintage and older leather. And i am really liking the bleeker wool.

These look beautiful! I love that bleecker a lot!!

This is a fabulous thread! You have truly inspired me :) I just joined this forum after purchasing a Coach vintage backpack for my granddaughter on ebay. It looks a little rough from the pictures, but I have no doubt it will serve her for years to come. I've gotten some great ideas how to begin with it's 'rehabilitation' from your forum. Can't wait for it to arrive...

I just completed my first rehab and have a backpack like this one on the way too! :)

Thanks to everyone that helped me rehab my mother's purse (original post mid Oct.)...It turned out great! The leather looks awesome and the brass is so shiny! I will try to get picks up as soon as I can :) I even have another project coming in the mail! It was a lot easier than I thought once I got over putting a Coach leather bag in a bath :) Now I'm just waiting for a cute fob in the mail to add some "bling" and I'll show my mom the final product! :)

Ok, I cannot get over the son coming in in the middle in Xbox pjs and she just waves him off!!! :roflmfao:
I'm with you Porter4 with the XBox pj's. Please forgive me; but the first thought that went through my mind was "Another 20 something, no job, middle of the day, living home with Mom & Dad" .....ugh :(.

.... but that's a whole diff subject !! .........I prefer to stick to my rehabs :))

LOL! I missed that. I fast forwarded through till I saw a bag i liked and stopped. That's how I came across the black glam. I had to go back and watch till I saw that. SMH

I don't want to discourage you but nubuc is really difficult to work with. What are you planning on doing?
My first & only adventure with nubuc turned into a pleasant surprise. For less than $4 + shipping, I took the plunge on a Honey Wheat colored Sonoma Bucket from Italy, Style 4932 with jacquard striped lining. It was dirty, scuffed and had 6 or so ink pen marks. My process
1. sprayed the worse spots with Shout
2. immediately put into a mesh laundry bag & tossed into washer with warm water, a squirt of Dawn + 1 scoop of Oxyclean
3. went thru an extra rinse cycle to make certain all the Dawn suds were gone
4. Stuffed with towels to reshape & hang to dry (drying is so much faster when spun in the washer; but the bag badly need reshaping due to wrinkling from spin cycle)
5. Bag smelled wonderful; but was that "dirty" look remained as well as ink.
6. Used a Suede Eraser & soft bristled brush and believe it or not it came out beautifully. Dirty look is gone; bag lightened slightly with the eraser. The most amazing part is the eraser took off the ink as well.

It is now a great bag; but not necessarily my style. Long story short I am not afraid of nubuc.

I will try to post a few pics today

I've decided to hold off on the SoHo Pocket Tote and start first with my Chelsea Hobo. Here are the before pictures...

She is a nubuc in camel with British tan leather trim and nickle hardware.

Wanted to chime in, as I just gave up on a Nubuc purse I was working on. It was overall very dirty and had some ink on it. I fully dunked the purse and didn't have any problems with that. I read on the Leather Honey website that you can use it on Nubuc, so I tested it on the hangtag first. I ended up using it on the whole purse with no problems and no darkening. What failed is that excessive scrubbing and my efforts to remove the ink (which was unsuccessful), seemed to change the texture of the Nubuc in those areas  I hope you have better luck than I did, but I would caution you from using anything more than mild cleaner/leather cleaner, and not to scrub too hard on dirty areas.

Hi, everybody! Over the last couple of weeks I've become addicted to this thread, all the used, worn bags turning beautiful again like cinderella! :amuse: Seeing all of you have such success gave me some courage to try it out for myself.

I wanted something big and indestructible that I could take to the park with my kids that I wouldn't have to worry about. I found this classic duffel from 1998 on ebay and got it for $65, which I thought was kind of a lot. The listing pictures were with a flash and made the leather look much worse than it actually was, so when the bag arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the bag's condition.

I soaked the bag two times with all free & clear detergent. I used a glass mixing bowl filled with water to keep the bag submerged. My kids thought I was nuts for putting a bag in the sink!! I just told them it was mom's "experiment". I had also turned the bag inside out prior to the soak because I had read here of people brushing the interior of bags to get them really clean. This bag had a well-cared for previous life so it wasn't bad at all. I used a clean plastic-bristled dish brush to clean the inside. I didn't include any bag interior pictures because the bag is HUGE and really dark inside, but it turned out great! The leather before was good, but flat. The bag wouldn't stand up and was really floppy. Just like you guys said, the leather "fluffed" up and the bag stands up great now! These shots, except the one at the park, are of the bag completely empty!

And here's my duffel on its first outing. It's such a sturdy bag, I don't worry about setting it on the sidewalk. I love it!
