This one looks great too! I am always misplacing the hangtags. I remove them to do the rehab and then I can't remember which bag they go with. Sometimes I take them with me to the store to match paint and then when I get home, I can't find them.

You bring up a great point about the hangtags!! What I do, since I need to keep track of what I spend for ebay profit analysis, is I take the price tag off the bag, and I thread the hangtag chain through a little hole I make the price tag, and write the name and style/creed#'s on the back of the tag so I can always rematch them up later and fill in my record books, etc. I stick all those hangtag in their own recycled baby wipes box which has that handy little opening in top for popping in tags... and I keep it in my laundry room where I do most of my rehab work. Any old box, shoe box, etc. would work. IF the bag doesn't have a tag attached, I just keep scrap paper handy and quickly fill out my own bag/style information on it and attach it to the hang tag for later match up.

SORRY, this is going to be a thread hog post:
I should have sent this back to the seller. But this bag retailed for $598, and I got her for $70 +ship. I wanted to keep her and make her better somehow! ( And I love my Leigh version of this bag so much! She was one of the rare exceptions to my "no siggy bag" rule!!)

When she came she was just nasty. Within minutes of getting her, I put her in the washing machine..(SUCH a drastic step for someone like me. I am a cautious bag rehabber!! Not as brave as some of you!) But, her true blue color was "off" and til I washed her I couldn't know if it was sun faded, or just plain dirty! I had to spot treat her with Tide, and an enzymatic natural spray cleaner, and Oxy spray for good measure. The foamy suds that popped up while scrubbing the lining were nearly black with dirt! I can't BELIEVE someone treated such a formerly incredible bag so BADLY! Then I put her in the washing machine with some Woolite Dark, plus a Shout Color catcher. I also added towels to surround the bag with more "scrubby" action. Here are some befores with an after comparison next to it. Hopefully I can make this set of photos work: The lighting was so variable from the first day I got her, til today!

The GOOD news, she can handle a trip through a washing machine. The BAD news: standing alone, she looks so much better, but apparently the color was truly just faded as well as dirty. See how she compares next to the Leigh version of this bag.

any opinions on future attempts? I can't imagine a way of sprucing up the blue color. Not having a nicer bag to compare to, would you consider her wearable?

I would, you did an amazing job with her! The blue is different, but it's similar to a blue suede Soho flap I have, so it's not bad IMO.
thanks, I am happy to hear others would be ok wearing her!

I would wear her, yes.

Do you think you lost any definition of the embossing either from the washer or from brushing afterwards (assuming you brushed her at all?).

I truly think the embossing is fine. It's harder to see with the fading that was going on, but it seems like it was totally fine, though. I just lightly brushed her to bring back some softness.

Yay! I think it came out great! If you don't compare it to the darker blue you couldn't tell. Just think of her as a slightly more faded pair of jeans.

You did a nice job on the purse.

She came out so much better! Yes, I think she is wearable. No one who sees her is going to know what the original color was. That seller should get dinged some stars for a bad description!

Thanks, and as for star dings..oh, I had to do a little dinging. And I don't do that lightly either. I really try to be fair and base my stars on auction vs. reality, and not on my "Hopes" for a bag like so many others do!! And in my feedback write up I just said something like.."giving a positive only because the price was fair. Bag much worse than photos or description indicate" I don't give bad feedback unless a seller is horrible, won't work with me, or refuses to back up their promises, etc. Since I rushed her to a washing machine, I didn't exactly give them a chance to remedy the situation. Thus, the positive feedback. grudgingly.

Silly question, but do you put the suede bags in the dryer? Or do you let them air dry?
definitely air dry! Not sure if dryer would hurt, but wouldn't take a chance when good old air is proven gentle ! I worry about drying out the leather otherwise. Not to mention banging the hardwear around. ( I suppose inside a pillow case might have been possible). I air dryed her, but I have her sitting outside for further airing since there's a faint smokiness to her...ugg
