I meant to add that this is the third of my eBay purchased City bags. This one didn't need much rehabbing, just a bath, polished hardware and conditioning. It didn't come with a hang tag either so I put a brown tag I have on it. It doesn't really match so I will have to order one.

I really lucked out at Goodwill. I found a Burgundy City Bag for $19.99!! Made in New York City. Soft chewy leather!!

I'm drooling too, feel free to join me!

I can't believe that I lucked into that bag! I had finished checking the racks at Savers and I wasn't too excited. Then I went up to the front counter where they keep the "expensive bags" (including a fake Taft!) I had asked to see their other, more typical-looking vintage coach bags and I wasn't too impressed with the selection and the pricing. The yellow bag was almost completely hidden and I wasn't sure what it was so I asked to see it too. I didn't even think it was coach, but it was such an unusal color that it got me interested.

As soon as I had it in my hands I knew that it was special. The $40 price was a bit off-putting but I just happened to have a 30% off coupon with me - so she came home with me for the bargain price of $28! A very lucky day!

Lol! I saw this bag when you first posted it to the authentication forum. I usually don't get so enthralled with a bag but this one sure has my attention! :-)

What a great price you go her for! That was certainly a bargain - wonder what her value would be today in such wonderful condition. My guess it would be far more than the original purchase price. Other than wishing it had been me, I'm so glad you got her!! ;-)

Aw thanks! But now that we know her name and number it will be much easier to find her. I hope you get one at a great price too!

Gorgeous! Such a beautiful, classic style and rich color!

Thank you katev!

You really got a great price on your burgundy City bag CoachChris! I would love to see yours so I hope you post pictures!!!

I paid $26 + shipping for this one and $18 + shipping for the navy one I posted earlier. I paid more for the green one I posted a while back, $39 shipped. I wanted the green though and it turned out so well that I'm glad I did. It's "bottle green" according to the color chart for that time frame.

I'd have to be really, REALLY lucky here. I think everyone holds on to their older bags because I have never found even one and I've been looking all over. :-/

But on a happy note, I can still drool over yours!!! LOL!! :p

Ouch! I've always thought Basic Bags would be great to keep in my luggage to help keep things organized. I have two and will probably end up doing something like this with one of them.
I have a new burgundy one that I am almost afraid to use because it is in perfect condition. Then I got a used burgundy one that rehabbed beautifully. I actually like that one better than the new one. I think the patina makes the bag more interesting. The fake one is black. It cost $3 plus $8 shipping so I'm not out much. At the time, I thought I was getting a great deal. I guess I can use the strap on my Madison Sutton satchel. Since it is the double skinny strap, it won't be noticeable that it isn't the same pebbled leather.

Aww that stinks! I am afraid I will do that one of these times too, not that I know that much but sometimes I take a chance and bid when there isn't time to have the bag authenticated.
It was a buy it now for $3 plus $8 shipping so I jumped. There is no excuse for my error as the seller had a picture of the creed posted but I must have just glossed over it.

That's too bad but don't be hard on yourself. I once bought a bag with misspellings in the creed. Hyacinth had to point out that there is an "R" in the word "scratches"! :shame:

Sigh. . at least it was a "cheap error!" I don't know about you but if I make a mistake, I just hope it won't be a $50 one! Everyone makes mistake so don't take to heart. That would have been a steal of a deal that would make most of us "grab it before someone else does!" :-)

I think the reason I found so many at Goodwill this summer is that no one wanted them, and they were just piling up. My favorite is the slim satchel with the glued in number.

I really am beginning to doubt if many ladies in my state even carry Coach. I see a few newer sigs for sale and some designer "copies" but no vintage or even just older bags. I've even advertised and got no response. :-( I went to Savers, Goodwill, Salvation Army, flea markets and antique stores here and found no Coach bags or any other quality bags for that matter. Guess I have to go south if i'm going to find any deals! LOL!

I don't get to see many of the older styles except on TPF or eBay so I just have to decide if I like something just through pictures and then hope it turns out like I think it looks if I buy on eBay. :-b

I think that a lot of people don't realize that the older coach bags can be rehabbed fairly easily and look good again. they see dirty, scuffed, misshapen bags and figure they are useless! But we know better! :graucho:

Where do you live? I think you need to have stores carrying them locally, for the last 20 or 30 years. For us, that's Macy's.

Now, when you travel, you know you need to make time to visit thrift stores.
