I dunked her in Woolite, did an application of Leather Therapy Restorer while she dried, a few applications of Leather CPR and two applications of Black Rocks.

The hardware holding the straps is plated so didn't polish up bright and shiny. I'm okay with that for now, but will keep an eye out for possible replacement hardware eventually.

The leather is nice and thick - some areas needed more conditioning than others - she IS 35 yrs old after all. The color has morphed a bit to a gorgeous dark teal/navy hybrid. The inside is now super soft and plush - I keep stroking it! :P

One last pic...here she is loaded up with my stuff. I'm going to carry her to work tomorrow. :)

What you can't see that's in the pocket is the original paperwork in its little drawstring bag (pics posted earlier). I feel like I've helped preserve a little piece of Coach history...this old gal still has quite a bit of life left in her!

very very nice work

My Ergo Pocket Zip is complete! She was made in 1998 in Costa Rica (loooove Costa Rica leather).

Not much to tell on this rehab...super simple. A dunk in Dawn Power Clean got rid of the superficial schmutz and dirt. Two applications of Leather Therapy and one round of Black Rocks. Polish up the zipper and hang tag ball chain and voila...like new. Carrying her today - perfect for casual Friday!

Wow that's great! I want a red bag & having never rehabbed am wondering if I should attempt a red one or just pay a buttload for a mint one.

Beautiful! How did you camouflage the stains? I have a red bag that needs serious help.

I went to a bunch of thrift stores yesterday and all I found was a Dooney AWL for $5. Does anyone know if this can be dunked?

I saw a couple of siggies that I think were fake although the creeds looked pretty good. The leather didn't seem nice enough.

Last year I bought a few Dooneys (that I still haven't rehabbed!) and I asked "dreaming of beautiful dooneys" on the ebay forum for AWL rehab advice; this is what she told me:

"Mild soap and water, after you wipe down your bags wipe it again with just water then dry with a clean cloth. DB says not to use leather conditioner or leather oil but I do! I rub my bags very lightly, after all if you dont condition leather it will dry out and crack. The leather used on DB bags is very strong and the only leather I have that has some mild cracks is the original bridle leather bags from the first line of hand bags."

It sounds like surface cleaning and then conditioning with something like lexol, leather restorer therapy, or emu oil might be the best route to take.

I ran mine through the front loader on handwash, just like my version of normal.

I'll probably try this first. There is a ton of ink marks on the inside, like someone just decided to carry a pen without a cap for an extended period of time. Since it is on the suede, I can't just cover it up with paint.

Thank you. It still has the paper sticker on the inside that denotes the model number so I don't think I want to destroy that.
