I dunked her in Woolite, did an application of Leather Therapy Restorer while she dried, a few applications of Leather CPR and two applications of Black Rocks.

The hardware holding the straps is plated so didn't polish up bright and shiny. I'm okay with that for now, but will keep an eye out for possible replacement hardware eventually.

The leather is nice and thick - some areas needed more conditioning than others - she IS 35 yrs old after all. The color has morphed a bit to a gorgeous dark teal/navy hybrid. The inside is now super soft and plush - I keep stroking it! :P

One last pic...here she is loaded up with my stuff. I'm going to carry her to work tomorrow. :)

What you can't see that's in the pocket is the original paperwork in its little drawstring bag (pics posted earlier). I feel like I've helped preserve a little piece of Coach history...this old gal still has quite a bit of life left in her!

yeah, this is now on my "watch list"...sigh.....LOVELY job-she's perfect!!

aww...she came out great. I don't know if I would mess with the hardware on a bag that old in that condition. If something is really damaged beyond repair that's one thing, but keeping the original parts is nice even if they're not perfect.

I agree - and I doubt I will ever really replace it unless it corrodes or something. I think the old hardware adds to her vintage charm.

Oh my goodness, how gorgeous!! Wonderful job!

I love this thread :smile1:

Thanks! Always happy to enable. ;)

LOL!

I have always loved this style but I'm trying not to eBay her because I'm not sure if I would carry it because of the little handles. I try to only buy bags that I really will use...though I imagine I have a few that won't get used much. So cute though. And if I find a great deal there's no way I'd pass it up.

I have said the same thing for a year and a half LOL...short handles are so not me...but I swear I keep seeing these awesome reveals and I am being worn down....I could see myself carrying it for short little jaunts to jungle java with my 6 year old, carrying my little netbook pc and Kindle...yes I can see it quite clearly :D

Beautiful! This little bag looks wonderful. Except for the fantastic coin purse, it's like my little "ipod bag" (I don't know it's real name). I'm thinking it's my lunch out with the girls bag.

I really only carry shoulder bags but somehow I have quite a few of these with the little handles. I've even thought about adulterating one to add on rings for a shoulder strap! I haven't really carried any of them yet, but I am thinking that if you needed to be hands free, you could always carry it under your arm like a clutch.

I want to be like that lady in the old Bonnie Cashin for Coach photo and carry about 10 bags at once :D

Thanks so much everyone! I'm really thrilled with how she turned out.

While I have a fair share of satchels, they pretty much all have a detachable shoulder strap as well - I'm all about versatility. :P

So with this one, it'll likely just be a work bag (which she gives off the BEST professional yet feminine vibe!) and I'll be back to the ones I can sling on my shoulder for weekends and nights out. But to carry from house to car to office, she'll be great in the crook of the arm or carried by hand - the under arm like a clutch idea is great, too, whateve!
