Now that I think about it, I think I would try Rit dye rather than leather dye. I figure you just want to refresh the color so that would be easier. Since you immerse the bag, it would be easier to get it even. It would probably be easier to find the right color too. You could leave it in the dye solution longer for more color. I did this with a lined pebbled bag and it came out fine. I was looking for a lime green so I just mixed green and yellow.

Thanks!

I know I broke the "rules" since my question was about a jacket, not a purse. Sorry...was just hoping for a little advice. :shucks:
I haven't had much luck cleaning suede. Since it is just two spots, I don't think I would risk immersing it. I think your best bet is to buy some suede cleaner. Maybe you could do a bit of Internet research to find out which cleaner is the best. Then after cleaning, you would brush it. It is possible that the spots are something that won't wash out no matter what you do.

I have a question about suede...but it's a beautiful jacket, not a Coach bag. It's in almost perfect condition, a beautiful salmon color. Here's the rub...there are two small, 50 cent piece size, dirty spots that are stiff. I have no idea what spilled on it or caused this.

There's no place locally to have it professionally cleaned...it would have to be sent out of town and I fear, cost prohibitive. I've done a couple of things to see if I can improve the spots...a light emory board, a gum eraser...nada nada. The spots are still dark and stiff.

I only paid $25 for it at an estate sale. It's a old name brand, exquisitely tailored and I'd love to wear it this winter. Frankly, I didn't see the spots until I got it home. Usual story, huh? One spot is along the bottom hem front and the other near bottom hem on the back.

Has anyone ever washed suede? The jacket is lined, has covered buttons and is really, really nice. So, tell me what you think...please. I can post pics if it will help.

I don't have much experience with suede and none with jackets. I did wash a bag lined with suedecloth one time and it dried clean but stiff, but it softend up when I brused it.

I suggest that you send a PM to Coffee&Coach, she is very expert in rehabbing many types of leather and I know that she once restored a leather jacket.

Good luck!

I have a Casey bag, too. Am not sure that it was made in periwinlke. Mine is navy blue - perhaps you should check wtih Hyacinth to see if it was made in periwinle. As a long time coach owner - they did do those colors every so often, but am not sure they did them in that bag - it would be interesting to find out.

Thanks for the suggestion, Hyacinth said that the spring 1993 collection included a bright blue color called Sapphire and she thinks that my bag may be Sapphire because Periwinkle bags are move lavendar.

I have a Coach suede jacket. As of yet I have not washed it. I have thrown it in the drier with wet Bounce sheets to get rid of the musty smell it had. Came out soft and fluffy. I got something on the sleeve I haven't been able to get out. My cobbler recently sold me some suede cleaner. It suds up like soap and the you wipe off with moist rag and then brush with suede brush. Haven't tried it yet. Too hot to think about jacket right now. Maybe a shoe repair place can recommend something. My dry cleaner will do for $80-$120 depending on work required.

Thank you so much. I'll look around for something like that. It's too hot here to be thinking about wearing it but if I don't try to ready it now...winter will be here and I'll regret being lazy about it. Plus, I don't have a stack of bags to rehab and rescue. Yet. But I'm working on it.

I'll do that and yes, I suspect it won't wash out. Thanks for the advice.

I'll do this too. Trying to remove the two spots aren't on my must do list but I'd surely love to wear it in a couple of months. Wish me luck and if I'm successful, I'll post pics.

There are video tutorials I believe too, showing a lined leather jacket. I've been using this wash as a leather "hand wash" soap for my bags I want to be truly careful with and so far its great. OF course every stain and every item being washed is different but machine washing seems so thorough- if this would work for you. Even as a last resort if this item is something you wouldn't wear otherwise as is.

I have sucessfully used leather therapy's laudry solution and rinse to wash leather bags in the washer; the product description says that it works on suede. Here's the link to the small set but it comes in various sizes.
