Ok then - It's in the bath and all I see so far it a little tinge of blue to the water. I used Dawn and fairly warm water. How long should I leave her soak before I rinse? And THANK YOU sooo much for your help! :-)

If the bag is pretty clean, you probably only need to soak it for 15-20 minutes. If it is really dirty, I give it 45 minutes and I turn it inside-out and I gently scrub the dirtiest areas!

Some questions about Apple Garde spray.

Do you spray outside? How long does it take to dry?

Do you need to spray one side, let it dry, then flip it over?

Or should I hang them somehow?

I have about six bags I'd like to spray.

Should I spray the hang tags first to see if it messes up the color?

TIA

Spraying the hang tag first is a great idea just to be safe. I've never had any issues using Apple Garde and have used it on most of my bags, but it's best to test. I hang mine in my garage to spray so I can do an all over spray to save time rather than flip 'n spray. :)

Gallina, I am multi-quoting your responses so that I can capture and bookmark all your comments. Here's the link for the product. http://www.wood-n-stuff.com/leatheraid.html

I got a jar of the navy color and plan to re-wash my sad City Bag to remove all the conditioner I applied and then try this product. Do you think it is essential to mix it with Cadillac Leather Conditioner, or would any good-quality condition work? Thanks for the information!

katev,

What exactly is this? A conditioner and dye in one?

So...I had another rehab arrive in the mail today. This is one I bought on Bonanza for $20 with shipping. It's a dark brown Station bag.

She arrived wrapped in nothing but brown paper and tape and the postman shoved her into my mailbox.

She definitely needs some love. The seller said the white stuff is from conditioner. Not sure what conditioner she's using inside the flap on the lining... Fortunately, the white stuff on the pockets and edges rubs off the bag with my fingers, so that could be conditioner residue, I guess.

She definitely needs a big ol' bath. No major structural issues, no tears, holes, major scratches - just dirty, dirty, dirty and super duper FLAT.

She's been added to my to-do pile. After Lula's complete, I'm taking a mini rehab break since I'll be out of town all next week for a department meeting (Florida in August - better pack a parka :p ).

That one looks like it's going to be fun! Can't wait to see how she comes out.

I haven't used it yet. My understanding is that it is an easy to use, brush on dye. Gallina said to mix it with conditioner to apply.

I spent $3 on a navy City Bag (link below) and the surface of the bag is badly distressed. I've used all my rehab tricks on it, and it looks better, but not good enough to carry the bag in public - so I figured it would be a great bag to try out this product.

I rewashed this bag yesterday in warm water in the washer to try and remove all the conditioners I have applied to it. I plan to try the dye and see how it works. If this product works well I may get a few more bottles in different colors!

Well, I just got 3 envelopes from Coach and I am very pleased. I only called about a week ago and asked for a mahagony brown hangtag and a brass turnlock replacement kit. I also asked for a hangtag for my periwinkle casey bag but I told the SA that they probably wouldn't be able to match that and it would be okay to send a metal, brass tag to match the hardware. She said that she would include that information in the order.

Today I received a mahagony tag, a brass turnlock kit, and (I couldn't believe my eyes!) a periwinkle tag that matches great!

So I didn't get a metal tag but it seems to me that they will try to find a matching tag and are very willing send a metal tag if that is the best option.

I'm excited, I thought I was going to have to wait weeks for that turnlock kit!

Will Coach send all replacement parts for free? Thanks for posting this. I have a City bag I purchased and the front turnlock is wobbly. I will give them a call on Monday and place my order. That is amazing that they could send a matching periwinkle tag! So....I probably could order 15 replacement tags, maybe only ask for 3? :thinkin:

As far as I know Coach will send free hangtags and standard turnlock replacements for free. I have never asked for more than 2 or 3 items at a time and I have heard that they have a limit per year (or 6 months?) on how many you can get; but I don't know how rigidly they enforce the limit.

Good morning Ladies and thank you katev for you advice!
Nervously but according to katev's instructions, I bathed my "like new" navy convertible clutch. I left her sit in the bath for close to an hour because I could still smell the scent of what the previous owner had treated her with. There wasn't much color that came off in the water, just a slight tinge of blue. I rinsed her then stuffed her and let her lay flat on towels to dry, turning her every few hours. I removed the wet towels and propped her open to dry better. Right before I headed to bed, I put paper towels in her to hold her sexy shape. She must have had a good night because she's looking gorgeous this morning! Though she's still damp I conditioned her with Apple and will condition her a few more times throughout the day.

But I would like to know when I should address the sueded side of the flap. It's a little flat from the bath. I have a vintage "fine wire" brush that was made for suede but wanted to ask if it would be safe to use? Also wondering if I should wait till the bag is completely dry before I try to brush up nap on the suede side?

And thank you again katev! You were right and she is even more beautiful since the bath! :-)

Ahhh. I use Fiebing's. Is there something special about this brand? The Fiebing's seems to work just fine so far.
