Thanks!

Don't be scared if you see a little color release into the bath water. That usually happens but the final color of the bag is usually fine. Actually better due to the bath and conditioning!

Whew - that's good to know. . . . . Oh be calm my anxious nerves! LOL!!!

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the right place for these questions or not, but I'd thought that I try here first.

First, I have 2 older Coaches that are a bit stiff and probably need a wash and conditioning. Is there a post that gives step by step instructions? I've never washed or conditioned a bag before and I'm a bit nervous.

Second, a rather oily liquid lipstick opened and spilled all over the inside pocket of my mom's black Lexi. Now, it's kind of sticky and gross. Any ideas about how to get the liquid lipstick off of the inner lining?

Thanks so much!!

As far as removing lipstick from the lining, I am pretty sure that I have heard of using baby wipes and also liquid make-up remover, but I haven't tried it. You should try searching TPF for lipstick removal or makeup removal. Good luck!

Here is a post listing all the typical rehab steps for a glove tanned vintage bag:

I agree with katev - I'd give her a bath...I think it'll make the shaping easier. So glad you're starting with this one - it will help inspire me to take mine out of the pile and get started on her!! :D

Lol thanks Katev and eehlers! Alright, she was clean, no change in water color at all...I have her stuffed and drying. When stuffed is it ok to be bulging a bit?? Is this ok?

I usually overstuff the bag a bit and try to shape it to the final shape I desire. And I make sure that all of the corners and areas are equally stuffed. but I do not overstuff the pockets because I don't want them to dry with bulges.

Be sure and stretch out the strap so that it dries flat, straight, and without curled ends.

Ok another chapter in the hangtag replacement saga: Today I got a vintage bag in the mail that is missing the hang tag. It's navy with brass hardware. I called Coach again (and) asked the rep if I could order a tag for it. She she could help with that, took my information and said it would be sent out!!! So far so good. . so I told her I'd just gotten a replacement tag for my white bag but was sent a tan colored one and it looked awful. I asked her if I could get a brass colored one that would at least match the hardware on that bag. She said she would request they send me one. I asked her If she needed the bag/style info on the white bag and she said she didn't and that she had placed the order for it. She also said I should have the tags in 3 to 5 days!!!

I'll update when they arrive! (fingers crossed!) :-)

Well, I just got 3 envelopes from Coach and I am very pleased. I only called about a week ago and asked for a mahagony brown hangtag and a brass turnlock replacement kit. I also asked for a hangtag for my periwinkle casey bag but I told the SA that they probably wouldn't be able to match that and it would be okay to send a metal, brass tag to match the hardware. She said that she would include that information in the order.

Today I received a mahagony tag, a brass turnlock kit, and (I couldn't believe my eyes!) a periwinkle tag that matches great!

So I didn't get a metal tag but it seems to me that they will try to find a matching tag and are very willing send a metal tag if that is the best option.

I'm excited, I thought I was going to have to wait weeks for that turnlock kit!

The only time that a bag usually starts "bleeding color" (in my experience) is when the previous owner used shoe polish to make it look better. In those cases you definitely need to give it a bath and use rubbing alcohol to try and get rid of the polish.

Ok then - It's in the bath and all I see so far it a little tinge of blue to the water. I used Dawn and fairly warm water. How long should I leave her soak before I rinse? And THANK YOU sooo much for your help! :-)

Thanks for reporting good news! And they also sent a turn lock replacement kit - fantastic!!!!! They did get them out really fast as well. At least now I have hope they will help me out too! :-)

How much does the turn lock replacement cost?? Just curious

Free! But they only offer the standard small brass or nickel-plated turnlocks that are common on the vintage bags.

If you have a newer bag with a big or fancy turnlock that is broken or lost, they may be able to replace it but you will have to send it in to JAX and pay a fee for evaluation. But they were able to replace the great, big turnlock on Lacey Stilletto's Parker bag. Most of the newer bags are lined so even when it is a small, standard turnlock you may not be able to get at the back parts to remove the turnlock and secure the new one, depending on the location of the lock.
