Morning Ladies! Just began Conditioning my Willis Project and I am noticing she dried VERY stiff...Will the conditioner help? I have never had a bag turn stiff after a bath...any suggestions? I am using Apple Care conditioner which is my fav! (almost out oh no!)

Multiple conditioner applications will help, if the bag is stiff you should get aggressive with the conditioner before the leather cracks. Apple, lexol, and leather cpr are good conditioners that will help but some bags are so dry they need intensive care. Refined, filtered 100% pure emu oil and leather therapy restorer and conditoner are more intensive conditioners. After the bag starts to soften, finish with blackrock to further conditon and restore the color and cover scuffs and flaws.

Good morning ladies. I need your advise again. I got a beautiful vintage bag that Hyacinth has authenticated for me. It looks brand new! The brass was a little tarnished but the bag absolutely perfect. Now my question: I can smell something on the bag. I think it is some kind of leather conditioner and the smell is familiar but I can't put my finger on what it is. Not sure but maybe saddle soap? I hate to bath this bag as it's so perfect but then I'm not sure if whatever was used on the bag could be harmful in the long run. Any suggestions?

It's totally up to you but if it were my bag I would give it a bath, even though it looks great. I am always amazed at how much dirt comes off bags that look good when I wash them. Below are pics of a green pocket bag that I rehabbed. I wasn't planning to wash it, just surface clean and condition, because it was in pretty good shape and I was worried about losing the beautiful color. But it had a strange smell and so I dunked it and it was so much better after I did - and the smell was gone too!

Wow katev, that bag looks amazing after you dunked it! That's what I needed to help me decide. Gonna go run the bath water now. Thanks for your advice! :-)

Thanks!

Don't be scared if you see a little color release into the bath water. That usually happens but the final color of the bag is usually fine. Actually better due to the bath and conditioning!

Ok, I have decided to begin with
1992 Basic Bag 9455
There isn't MUCH to do other than shape and polish hardware. Since she is SO clean would you guys recommend a bath?? She is pretty smooshed

I agree with katev - I'd give her a bath...I think it'll make the shaping easier. So glad you're starting with this one - it will help inspire me to take mine out of the pile and get started on her!! :D
