Last month I requested a couple tags for some older bags and one was a white bag. They sent a Kaki colored tag. The bag is all white and the tag looks awful -I think anyhow! They also sent a darker brown tag that didn't match the other bag. I called them to ask for metal tags but the Rep. said they don't have those anymore, that they only have mahogany, kaki, and black and they try to match what you have to one of those colors! Is that true or did I get a lazy sales rep?
Thanks! It's some weird translation going on between my iPhone and tPF. Since my iPhone pics are too large to post to tPF, I have to e-mail the photo to myself at medium quality and then save it to my photo library on my phone (I really wish tPF would up the file size for photos).
The pic shows up right side up in my phone, but if I post it right after saving it, it posts sideways. If I go in and crop the photo first, it'll post right side up. :weird: Regardless, a tedious and annoying process. I used to be able to just directly upload right from my phone, but now I always get the message that the size is too big.

In terms of what I know about her - she's a US made Pocket Purse...in terms of age, all I really know is that she's from pre-1994 as her registration number is from before year codes and model numbers were included. Beyond that - anyone's guess, I suppose.
And here are the results...
After her Woolite bath, I conditioned her with Leather Therapy oil (I lost count of the number of applications) and once my Emu oil arrived late last week, I added that into the conditioning rotation as well. It was amazing to see the leather transform - it is so thick and supple - has some really 'oomph' to it. She was a thirsty gal.
The dry rot holes. Ahhhh...the dry rot holes. I kept finding more and more tears, splits and holes along the piping and especially in high usage corners. So, I ordered some Leather Filler, figuring I'd probably need to learn sometime!
It's a glue like consistency and dries to a cloudy, whitish color. It's 30% water, so when it dries it shrinks up, necessitating multiple applications. As you'll see from the pics, I really didn't master the art of using it or of smoothing and sanding it. So, don't use my pics as testament to whether it works - the sloppy results are much more a function of the user than the product!! But the holes are filled, which was my main goal - had I been a bit more patient (not one of my strong suits) I'm sure I could have built it up better and gotten it looking nicer.
Once the filler dried, I used one of two methods to cover up the filler. For the more shallow splits and tears, plus the really bad scuffs, I used Kiwi Leather Dye with the sponge applicator. I love this stuff - works amazing - you can see the results of that in the pic of the bottom corner - there was both a crazy deep scuff mark and a dry rot mend on that corner and it's hard to see evidence of either now. I did have a mishap opening the bottle the first time which sent leather dye flying - mostly into my lap (fortunately I was only wearing $15 jeans from Target that day!).
For the deeper holes, I used thick black acrylic paint mixed with Cadillac conditioner to cover the repairs. I bought a matte black, but you can still see the 'shine' of the paint on those repairs. Having read some earlier posts, had I 'texturized' it a bit more, it probably would have helped with that shine factor.
The inside of this little gal is so soft and lush now - clean as a whistle.
So, she's far from perfect, but I think I've patched her up enough that she still has some good years left in her. She's the perfect little cross body bag, and I'm sure she'll be accompanying me on many bag hunting expeditions at local thrift shops in the future!
katev said:I just called for a couple of tags the other and one of them is for a periwinkle blue bag. I suggested a gold tag to match the hardware and the rep agreed and said that she would indicate my preference with the order. She didn't say anything about no more metal tags.
Really Katev? I wonder if I got a lazy rep? I asked her what we do with a white bag that we can't get tags to match. She repeated that they have those certain colors and they send the one they think will look best. And that people just like to have tags on their bags. Grrrr! Gonna call again tomorrow!
I'm still puzzled at the cards with the ones they couldn't match though. Do they send those with the metal tags too?
katev said:I don't know, I will have to see what they send me. I have gotten those "couldn't match" cards when they have sent a metal tag because they didn't have a good match for the original tag that came on the bag.
