I always get a little color release, whether I dunk the bag or just surface clean, it isn't usually a problem. How bad is it, do you notice the color loss, does the bag have a pale spot?

Does the bag have an irridescent sheen to it? That may mean that someone put shoe polish or something on it. When you try and clean a bag that has been coated with shoe polish it will bleed color!

Can you post pictures?
I threw away the first sponge, but I repeated the Leather CPR treatment again tonight - and here are the pictures. You can see that the sponge definitely has some red color that rubbed off. But, the bag doesn't seem to have any loss of color. No sheen, so I'm hoping that this falls in the realm of normal. There are a couple of ink spots on the outside which I will probably leave - I tried removing ink stains from another Coach bag and that lightened the leather, which I do not want to do with this beautiful red color. However, if anyone has any thoughts on how to remove the grime from the handle, I'd be much obliged!

I'll be honest, I'm not sure which it is. The leather seems to be in good shape - she's taking the conditioner well with no signs of cracking, so maybe it is just variation in the leather. What I do know is that with the intensive moisturizing I've done inside and out on this little lady, she is one super soft bag right now!

Here are some shots. The first shows the wrinkles post-emu oil applications on the outside and on the unlined interior. I think it looks a little better, but I could be kidding myself. :p

The others show her as she looks right now both front and back. She's a gorgeous color and by looking at her from the front, you'd never guess she's probably about 35 years old. On the back, you can see the wrinkling, but I think it gives her a little character - she is an old girl, after all. :D Regardless, I'm thrilled I found her and could rosy up her cheeks a bit and give her a chance to be loved and used again.

Mine is like this too. IMO, Meyers may have used Cashin's designs, but their construction, hardware and choice of leather was not as good quality as Coach's. The inner "suede" part also appears coarser to me. Also on my bag, the leather tab on the zipper pull was glued together and has come apart, a Coach bag would have been sewn.

It's still a very cool bag. I actually got mine out tonight and put a coat of emu oil on it. She was pretty dry (and dirty) when I got her a few months ago-I took pix of the bath process but since she got set aside, I've never posted them. I will when she's complete. The good news is after the bath and leather treatments I gave her before putting her away, the leather seems much softer than I remember.

I recently got an abused Madison Copley in the mail. Hyacinth kindly authenticated her for me and now we are on to repair. The biggest challenge is the lining is messed up One whole seam along the right side, north to south, is opened up. Has anyone ever fixed a lining before? Should I go see a pro? Also, her front turnlock seems gritty, almost like as if it has sand in it..... Seriously, who spends that much for a bag and then treats it so bad?'!? Thanks for any input

Oops. I had Lula sitting full of towels on my hope chest in my bedroom (not where I usually dry bags). When DH came to bed last night, he turned the ceiling fan on. So, Lula started drying a little quicker especially near the top. She's still damp (more damp near the bottom) but I put a thin application of Leather Therapy on this morning just to be safe - focusing on the drawstring so it doesn't get too dry too quick. She seems no worse for the experience - I just didn't anticipate her drying so quickly - must be the lack of pockets or flaps!

Still got the lines/swirly things. Think I am gonna just back off and wait for the Blackrock, should be here tomorrow. I'm afraid if I keep scrubbing it, it's gonna end up lighter than the rest of the bag. I think it already is just a little... Lesson learned: From now on I'll use Oxi Gel with my hand, not those little nubby things on the applicator!!!!

P.S. is it ok if I rub some Apple conditioner on today before the Blackrock comes tomorrow? That flap is just sooooo drrrryyyy now.

My zipper pull did the same thing. I'm really happy with her, and am chalking the wrinkles up to leather variation. She's gotten pretty soft with the emu oil, and my main goal of reshaping her so that she can stand on her own was a success! I'm looking forward to carrying her soon!

And...can't wait to see pics of yours - she's like the big sis to mine! :D

Ugh. Sorry about those persistent swirls. I have a good feeling that the Black Rock will definitely help minimize this issue!

Apple will be fine. I sometimes think Apple puts a nicer shine on the finished product. I sometimes use it on top of the LCPR and do a final buff before blackrocks.

what a nice bag!! that handle grime is pretty permanent. I did remove a bit of ancient grime from my Cashin Carry by rubbing a good amt of blackrocks into the handles and really FIRMLY wiping it back off, using the Blackrocks as a Cleaner, not just a conditioner. It didn't CURE the dark stuff but it did pull some of it out. My old red NYC satchel though, was just too set in so it didn't really change much. Some have tried magic erasers too. That needs to be done with extreme care. You don't want to remove the outer leather finish.

There's just GOT to be a way to fix the swirls!! Did the water mark ever diminish?

It's still there but GREATLY improved to the point I'm satisfied... Sure I'll be even more satisfied after Blackrock.

If the flap doesn't get better with Blackrock, I think I might dye it to even it out. The flap is WAY worse than the original water stain. And I did it myself AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!!

I think if it comes to that, a re dying would be wonderful. I'm pretty convinced I'm going to do that to my soulder flap draw string bag. after 3 washings it just isn't right and the touch up paint wasn't working.

Check the way your camera is taking the pic, if you upload to iPhoto at the bottom right of the screen there is an arrow to rotate...it saves automatically ;) this can also be done from the phone by clicking the top right corner "edit" then rotate...for future

Thanks! It's some weird translation going on between my iPhone and tPF. Since my iPhone pics are too large to post to tPF, I have to e-mail the photo to myself at medium quality and then save it to my photo library on my phone (I really wish tPF would up the file size for photos).

The pic shows up right side up in my phone, but if I post it right after saving it, it posts sideways. If I go in and crop the photo first, it'll post right side up. :weird: Regardless, a tedious and annoying process. I used to be able to just directly upload right from my phone, but now I always get the message that the size is too big.

If you have a free account with photobucket or flickr you could post the pictures there and then copy the img link to display it in your tpf message.
