And...my other find today for $12, which was just authenticated. The Basic Bag from possibly late 70s/early 80s. This one definitely needs a soak. :)

I'm loving this new hobby! It's gonna be an addicting one, but way more satisfying than buying brand new for hundreds of dollars!!

Now that it's been authenticated...here's another project...it's a Bonnie Casin for Meyers bag I found for $15. It's in great shape and no funky smells, so I'll probably just surface clean this one and polish up the hardware rather than the full on bath. There are a number of pen marks inside, but eh...no biggie to me. Isn't she cute??

Nice find! I have one like this hanging in my closet. It came through the dunk process with flying colors if you think you want to try it. Most of my bags look better after a dunk, in fact.

However, mine is pretty dry which is why I was asking about emu oil up thread, so she's not ready for prime time yet.

Thanks! Good to know about the dunk. I'll see how she does with some surface work and see if she needs more spa treatment. :P

Thanks so much - I love it! I seriously think my eyes almost bugged out of my head. It was just mixed in with a bunch of other bags on a bookshelf in the corner...so glad I took the time to look through each and every one!

I wouldn't mind polishing brass so much if I didn't always get the Brasso on the leather. My Brasso is almost gone-not sure where it came from, just found it in the garage. How does Wrights compare? Why do you like it better?

ETA: OK, I would still mind it if I didn't get Brasso on the leather, I would just mind it less.

Me too. Hard lessons learned: trying to polish the damn zipper teeth with a liquid polish...never again. I use a brass polishing cloth for that. But Wrights vs Brasso: It's a subtle "texture" thing. It just seems to lay onto the brass and pull up the tarnish a bit better? It's been a good while back since I used the Brasso so I can't remember the exact feel of it, but I just kept finding myself starting out with Brasso, then halfway through the bag pulling out the Wrights. I've also discovered a nice "finishing" polish that I use when I am all done with the bag and just want to do a nice additional touch-up and to remove any additional tarnish (which seems to just "appear" when you think it's all gone!!) It's called MAAS metal polish. I got the "french lavender" and at about $5ish for a 2 oz tube ( a little goes a long way) it's too pricey to just slather on for the grunt work, but it's not runny, so it doesn't manage to land on my leather when I'm trying to finalize the bag. I also just picked up a bottle of Weimans for $2 yesterday. I want to see how it compares to Wrights and Brasso. I now officially have enough brass polish to do all the doorknobs in Buckingham Palace. And maybe the Biltmore.

OMG I want this too! And the ones I've seen cost a HECK of a lot more money than $15!!

Thanks! I'm still in shock!

I just polished the hardware and did a coat of Cadillac leather care. The leather is unbelievable and such a rich and warm brown. She's wonderfully supple now, but...I just put her in the queue for a dunk. She needs some shaping as her bucket bottom has lost some of its badonkadonk. She's folded on both sides where you can tell she probably flopped when sat down - but fortunately no creases! So I think a dunk 'n stuff will help her get her booty back. :P

Here's a pic of her leather after one round of conditioner. I just wanna smoosh it...so soft and chewy.

I successfully gave a bath to a Cashin for Meyers bag one time but I was very cautious to make sure it dried slowly and I gave it lots of moisturizing during the drying process; because DemRam had one crack on her after giving it a bath and she had to throw it out.

Yeah - newbie error...just tried to do Wrights Brass Polish on a zipper. Ugh. Glad I found an old travel toothbrush to work the polish out of the teeth. Note to self...get some brass polishing cloths before startin the rehab on my Basic Bag!!

Thanks for the tip!! I'll definitely proceed with caution! This will be a dumb question, but since the leather is already in great shape and she's pretty darn clean in and out, is there any other way to shape her without getting her wet? I hate to risk destroying her...would stuffing her with cloths/rags work at all if I left them in there for a while? My gut says no, but hey - can't hurt to ask, right?
