I have one like this in new condition. I can hardly wait for the afters. I bet it will look beautiful. It looks like they used it to carry hay!

So here is my crazy logic about washing an older unlined Coach bag. Leather is skin so I can wash it like I wash my own skin. I stick my hands in the sink to do dishes then I put on moisturizer. Ergo I put the bag in the sink and scrub it with a wash cloth. I repeat this until I am satisfied she is clean. Then a cool refreshing soak or two to remove all the soap. Stuff with paper towels and begin to shape. Every so often I turn it over so it dries evenly and pool water causing a water stain. And if it does happen I dunk in water again. When it is mostly dry I begin to condition. If the leather is a little faded I mix leather reconditioning paint into Cadillac conditioner. When it is dry I do several coats of Leather CPR.

I have done this as well with a lined Kristin satchel and the only trick to it was turning the bag inside out to make sure the lining dried as well.

Thanks so much! After reading up on it some (this is such a great thread!), I now have the Pocket Purse taking a Woolite bath. Wish me luck! ;)

So I just thought to post pics of my pink suede soho before I dare dunk it...sorta nervous about this one.

So, the color of the lining does not make me as nervous as the dark red leather trim....any thoughts ladies?

While I'm on a picture kick here are some recent pics of an 80's Court bag I have been slowly working on, I wish I had taken more detailed before pics cause from a distance in the dark photo you can't see how far this bad boy has come!

Beautiful bag!! Great job!

I'm hoping you lovely ladies can help get me started in the right direction...I'm typically in the RM or Chloe forums, but have always been a fan of vintage Coach - the shapes, the leather...love!!!

I found these three bags at my local consignment shop today and they definitely need some TLC! I have posted them in the ID this Coach thread as well, as one of them is a bit of a mystery (the small flap one). I know the other two are a City and a Station.

So, I want to clean and condition them up to try and bring some life back into them - especially the Station bag - I just love the shape and style of that one! I imagine the soapy bath is needed (geez, that makes me so nervous!!), followed by stuffing with towels till dry. Do I apply conditioner while it's still wet? I typically use Cadillac conditioner - will this work, or should I try a different one?

Any and all suggestions from you, the experts, are most welcome!! Thanks in advance!

Nice finds! Check out these 2 links for more information:

I once washed a white suede coach wristlet in the washer and it came out just fine. I also washed my gramercy zip in the sink and it is lined with cream suedecloth and it came out looking great, and the bag was black leather but there was no color bleed. The fabric was a little stiff after it dried but I brushed it and it was great.

The only time I have had problems with washing a "delicate bag" is a white nylon hobo that had white suede trim. The adhesive ran and stained the fabric yellow.

So I think that your pink bag will probably be okay, but I haven't washed a light suede bag with dark leather trim so I can't be more confident, sorry.

But I am interested in the results of your bag. I have a salmon suede soho flap and a baby blue suede wristlet (links below) both in desperate need of a good long wash!

Thanks Jessi! I think I bought this for $6 and got it when I was having uploading difficulties and couldn't wait to bathe and condition her lol hence the weak excuse for before photos....it was pretty scratched up and there was a huge white mark on the back I somehow managed to get off with apple care cleaner and NOT take off the finish.

I will be certain to get her in the bath tomorrow! And I'll post results as soon as she is dry :) the more I think about it the more I feel like even if it bleeds as long as its EVEN I won't care...maybe that's me talking myself into it hehehe
I love that red one katev!!! Trade ya for the pink ;)

Yes just let it rest. I've even waited a couple of days. Then I come back to it with an old soft cotton white sport sock "glove" over my hands and just start gently buffing it like crazy. That tacky feel goes away once it is either absorbed or buffed with time. Blackrocks is actually an excellent gentle cleaner. You will see some residual dirty and/or dye come off sometimes. But it's still ok.

Thanks everybody!

Thank you! I got impatient and put a coat of leather CPR on. It seems to have helped as I
Buff and the tacky feeling has gone down. Interestingly the lovely stiff shape post bath is now softening up so I think this will have to be the last layer of conditioner. Greatly improved even if still some piping wear!
