All the new reveals are great! Question about Blackrocks. I applied a thin layer last night with a cosmetic sponge and got sidetracked - wiped off excess but did not buff till this morning. Some lint is stuck to leather and leather feels tacky. What should I do? Just let it rest?

Also some dirt came off during the buffing whereas virtually no dirt came off with Leather CPR which is supposed to be a combo cleaner conditioner. ???

Yes just let it rest. I've even waited a couple of days. Then I come back to it with an old soft cotton white sport sock "glove" over my hands and just start gently buffing it like crazy. That tacky feel goes away once it is either absorbed or buffed with time. Blackrocks is actually an excellent gentle cleaner. You will see some residual dirty and/or dye come off sometimes. But it's still ok.

I think you'll be amazed at what a good bath will do. My zippered clutch was about the same age and condition and came out great. I experimented with dye on mine but it wasn't necessary or even really recommended. I just wanted to try it out.

How dry is the leather? I would say get it as clean as possible and if its not super dry, a few coats of apple or leather cpr and finish with blackrocks will do it.

Mine was so dirty-no spots, just years of grime permeating the leather, that after an initial dunk and scrub I ran her through the washing machine.

It's in a bath now and you're right, it already looks much better!

This will probably immensely improve just after an initial bath. These older incredibly heavy leathers from that old NYC/USA era seem to just transform in a bath. Your conditioner assortment is perfect so you will be good to go once it's bathed. And once its dry we can better assess it because I imagine what we see now might be different at that point.

You're right about the leather. It's so thick and still supple after all this time.

G - O - R - G - E - 0 - U - S ! ! ! I am so envious of this bag...beautiful job!

Glad to hear this, because you're good at it!

These after pictures are So Beautiful! Your rehabbing skills (and photography skills) are very good! The bag looks perfect! I am envious of the color. It is truly a year-round bag IMO. Bravo!

p.s. I just realized I spelled worthwhile incorrectly in my introduction post last night. Really! I promise I do know how to spell........most of the time. Grief!:roflmfao:

I prefer to keep the original hangtag with the bag when possible. You can easily use some leather-safe fabric glue to reattach both sides of the hangtag.

Thank you all so much!
katev-The back got separated from the bag and so all I have left is one side

Thank you so much for explaining about the blackrocks. Mine just arrived today and so far I knew what to expect for it to look and smell like, thanks so you wonderful ladies :smile1:. I just applied and oh my goodness my bag already looks awesome, can't wait to buff it :D

I really like that style, looks bigger than mine. Great job with that one and yes that linen paint is a great match! I found another lightweight style you found, one that looks like a big tote?

It might be the pictures, I think mine is maybe a little smaller or even approximately the same size. It's about 9X3X10.

Hi Ladies,

Do I need some help on a rehab! :smile1:

Please take a look at these pictures and you'll see a badly beaten up pouch (?). The pictures from the auction were very good so I knew what I was getting into.

Please give me your opinions on how to proceed. I'm assuming a bath first, but since this bag is in such bad shape I'm stuck on what to do next.

I have the following conditioners: Apple Leather Care, Leather CPR, Blackrocks and thanks to katev I now have Emu oil. If there's another you think I should have to use on this, please let me know.

Thanks in advance. :sos:
I just Love these old bags......the streamlined, simple ones are the best! This bag just screams Cool. I cannot wait to see how it turns out. That color leather is my favorite. Good Luck!:w00t:

I was hoping to pick your brains on my first major rehab. Up until now, the preloved bags I have bought have been in fairly good condition and have not required much work. However, I found this courier pouch for super cheap and decided to go for it....I know it will be tricky. The poor thing feels like it hasn't been conditioned in 20 years and I am wondering if I should try using Lexol cleaner rather than dunking it. I am worried that it couldn't take the drying process. It has some piping issues and already a few "tears".

I bought some Leather CPR for this bag for post cleaning, and found some Blackrocks if that isn't strong enough. As far as the tears/splits, I am still hunting for something. I appreciate any input!

I saw one of these when I was out with friends last night! It was so weird seeing one out in the wild!
