I have my first finished bag and wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the wonderful information on this thread! I bought this bag at my local Goodwill.
I bathed this bag in wool wash and then did an initial conditioning with Leather CPR. I then moved on to a mixture of 1 T Leather CPR with 1/2 tsp Linen acrylic paint mixed in. I used a makeup applicator sponge to apply this in a small circular motion. I used this same ratio with a stiff paintbrush and sponge on the strap edges. Lastly I used Brasso on the metal.
This was authenticated on the Authentication Thread as a Shoulder Pouch from the 1987 Lightweight line, thank you awesome authenticators for your time! It was not a very drastic rehab, just needed a little cleaning, conditioning and cover of minor spots.

Does your bag have a hangtag? You can get a free replacement from Coach customer service. It would be hard to match the color so ask for a gold colored one to match the hardware.

Her hangtag is split so I thought I would call customer service soon. I also need one for my courier pouch :smile1: I had to laugh when you replied to look in the thread for my bag's sister, I will do a search and find her.

Awesome! Did you see your bag's sister? Same color, slightly different design, drawstring flap girl?

Found her! I like that design. Will you let me know if you decide to put Blackrocks on her how it turns out? I have only put Leather CPR on my bag, as someone had mentioned that Blackrocks can pick up the acrylic and I didn't want to undo all my work right away!

Good morning ladies! I have a new rehab project to show you.

The lovely ladies in the Authenticate thread told me this is a vintage satchel from the mid-'80s. The leather was in great shape, but I could tell she had been stored somewhere for a long time, probably with something on top her.

You can see here that one side is misshapen:

I put her in the bath for about an hour and the water was disGUSTing. It was brown with tons of little particles. I rinsed her and bathed her again, then scrubbed the inside. Rinsed, soaked in clear water, then rinsed again.

Coach leather has the loudest, strangest smell when it's wet. It actually filled the room. I stuffed her and set her in front of an open window to dry. Here's what she looked like wet and stuffed:

And here she is mostly dry and with two coats of Leather CPR:

As you can see, that left side still looks a little off. I have no idea how to fix that, so if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears!:D

The smell is mostly gone now that the bag is almost dry, but it's still strong compared to my other leather bags (non-Coach).

Thanks for looking!:p

Very nice rehab! I have a similar satchel in khaki, except mine has D rings on both ends to accommodate a shoulder strap. Here's a link to what I did to support the end panels...it might do the trick for you. http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452-127.html#post21636142

hmmm. The way I read it was, the reason she thinks yours is ok, is because the creeds that look the same as yours, happen to have outlet stamps on them making that particular code stamp more "real"-- so yours happened to not be stamped for outlet, but looks like the ones that were...meaning same authentic plant code just by comparison? I hope I'm making sense...and, now that I'm over thinking it LOL, I might ask her to re-word her answer. If she's willing ;)

I went back and re-read Hyacinth's comments and agree with what you are saying. My concern has always been mainly the weight and texture of the leather, being much thinner and before the bath and lots of conditioning, much stiffer. (If we only had touch-o-vision!) It's more like the Lightweights leather weight-wise and did become more supple after conditioning. I've never carried this bag...I don't know if anyone ever did. Maybe just a lack of exercise? I'm going to continue my quest for photos of an '03 Abbie - maybe they just used a crazy batch of leather that year. Thanks for your thoughts!

G - O - R - G - E - 0 - U - S ! ! ! I am so envious of this bag...beautiful job!

You guys can see from my number of posts that I am kind of new here. I don't feel new because I have been reading this thread for weeks. I have enjoyed it so much. I read this thread as well as the Authentication thread. You have inspired me to try what I think is a worthwile and rewarding hobby. I have a good camera and will join in soon with my first rehab.....a black court bag from 1997. Imagine my disappointment when it arrived in the mail in almost perfect condition. I am going to rehab it anyway for I feel certain of a good outcome. Thank you to all of you for our pictures, stories and inspiration.

Welcome! I started out much the same as you...reading, reading, reading! And from the very first bag that got dunked in my kitchen sink, I was hooked! It is worthwhile, rewarding, therapeutic and very addicting (I guess there could be a lot worse habits lol). Can't wait to see your projects!

Good morning ladies. I not sure I'm asking in the right forum but I hope someone here can help. I just purchased two "new" bags that have care instructions I am concerned about. Both say NOT to use conditioner or cleaner and only use a DRY cloth to clean! First is the #19312; Kristine round woven satchel the other is #19312; Madison Lindsey embossed metallic leather. Has anyone here used Apple Garde on either of these? I would like to protect them but also don't want to ruin the leather. Thank you for your help/suggestions!
