If I remember the auth. thread correctly, this is a nubuck bag. In that case it will need to be treated like a suede bag, washing is fine but no conditioners, just a good brushing.

Thanks, I did give the natural drawstring to me neice and she really liked it!

If your sonoma is a nubuck bag than I agree with Rambler, no conditioners!

Whoops! Rambler is right. Hyacinth did say nubuck but I had no idea that was significant in any way. Thanks for catching that, Rambler.

Jeesh....I really hate being a newbie sometimes. :confused1:

An absolute treasure, she looks great on you, congratulations!

Thanks!! I got so lucky that I found her in such great shape. She's conditioning up so well that I think I'll pass on doing a wash...don't want to risk harming or cracking her. I can live with a little bend near the base and will store her stuffed to help her maintain her cute little figure. :P

I recently purchased a lunchbox bag online and dunked her today. She is a dark espresso color, really dry though. Anyway, tons, and I mean tons, of color came off in the water. Is that normal for that color? Should I take that as a bad sign?

It could be some kind of polish that came off. I have used Leather Refinish by Wood-N-Stuff mixed with Cadillac Leather Conditioner to bring back the color. It doesn't come off in rain or tub off on clothes. Leather Refinish comes in many colors.
Here is what my Ranch bag looked like before and after.

Probably shoe polish was used at one time or another, had that happen with my first bag. I use Leather Therapy & Repair. I got a huge pump bottle on EBay. All natural oils, environmentally friendly, no stickiness. I Judy apply once a day til the leather feels supple.

I think it might be some kind of shoe polish, as the bag keeps looking the same color, but every time I put it in the water, the water gets very brown. Should I keep washing it until the water barely colors to try and get all the polish off? That Ranch bag is awesome gallina66! I am going to head to ebay for the Leather Therapy, thanks for the tip chowlover2.

Has anyone noticed that their nails are stronger and skin is softer from using the leather care products?

I thought that my skin felt softer after using the emu oil. I was a little scared to use it because I have some allergies, so I spot tested it on myself first. I didn't have any problems with it and it seemed to help my skin.

I agree that it may be shoe polish, see if the bag has an irridescent color - that is usually a clue. You can use rubbing alcohol to try and get the rest of it off.

I usually see a little "color release" in the water when I wash a bag. Recently I rehabbed 3 red bags and the water turned the color of blood! See the link below, I was scared! But the bags came out fine with beautiful coloration, so your bag should be okay.

Thank you for posting this, I've just ordered it in navy for a city bag that I had given up on! Do you have any tips for using it?
