Good Morning/afternoon.... I was wondering if someone might be able to guide me in what I should do to this pretty little beauty I found yesterday at the Goodwill store

http://s1263.photobucket.com/albums/ii623/tecdeccollins/

I have never done this before, I am excited to see her close to what she would have looked like in the 1990's :smile1:
Your first step will be a bath, after which you can stuff her with towels to reshape her. But before the bath I would work on those ink stains a bit to make sure that they don't spread to the outside of the bag. You can try alcohol or acetone unless you have Amodex.

I have at least one, maybe two bags waiting in the queue where i plan to dunk just the strap for this reason. It seems like the straps with buckles curl up.

And "hello" everyone! I've not been around much the last couple weeks, things shoukd settle after this weekend.
Thanks. You don't think that the strap will lose some color from dunking, do you? Mine is red.

Thank you, there is a couple of pen marks on the outside of the bag is there something I can use to get those off?? I have to admit I am afraid to work on her but I also am so excited to see her close to her original self :smile1:

Well, I'm the dunking queen so I may be the wrong person to ask, but I don't think you'll lose a noticeable amount of dye with a little bath. I would probably just use lukewarm water and leave it in there long enough that the leather is soaked through so you can smooth it out.

I haven't dunked my red stewardess because it doesn't need it, but I wouldn't hesitate to do just the strap if I felt it needed straightening.

Anything you use has the possibility of also removing color from the leather so you have to be careful. Amodex is made specifically for removing ink but I haven't gotten it to work on ink on leather, although it works wonders on cloth. I haven't had good results with alcohol because it seems to remove the leather color more than the ink. On the other hand, your purse has spots where the color has already been removed so you are probably going to have to touch those up with paint or dye. You can always touch up the ink spots on the exterior with paint if you can't clean them off. The main thing I would be careful of is if there is a large amount of ink in any one area that might spread when you start cleaning.

Ok thank you... there is only 2 at the bottom that might be noticeable, so I won't worry about those right now, I am kind of scared to do the work on her. Have any of you just left the marks alone and not touch them especially on the outside of the bags??? Also does a Coach bag hold onto it's value or does it decline on it's worth as it gets older?? TIA

...and the rest of my summer free time. I finally got enough nerve to drag out my bins full of thrift shop Coach fixer-uppers. Anybody wanna become a refurb. intern ? LOL.

HAH! I bet your husband wasn't home when you did that!

I want to come play!

LOL....he wasn't home when I started,.... except he decided to come home for lunch while I was taking pictures so I told him....don't worry, these are the bags I"m selling....so he wasn't too upset about that part haha
A few of these are gonna be "keepers" though, which is why there are a few that were in my collection photo. But over all, even some of my collection may have to go once I decide what I can part with from that group as well.

Hey, I use that "I'm selling" ploy too! I might show my DH your huge pile of bags so he won't complain about mine!

Coach bags have value dependent on what someone is willing to pay, and that changes from week to week. Very few bags sell for more than what they retailed except possibly some of the very old 60's and 70's or very rare styles, and even then, they have to be in excellent shape. Your bag is probably from the early 90's. (Did you find out her name and when she was made in the Authentication thread?) In my opinion, you can only improve it by working on her. If all else fails and you make an irreversible mistake, you can always dye her black and she will look like new.

I found out her info this morning, she is a Whitney bag from the light weight line from the early 1990's

I will definately take the plunge and see if I can't get her looking a spiffy and wide awake, right now she looks looks tired :D

I did a Whitney bag rehab a while back. It's a nice bag. Roomy but not too heavy and I love the pockets.
