Here are the inky mess inside the bag and on the outside. I worry that washing may expand the size on the outside. Is that possible?

Nice bag! The ink spot on the outside is not too bag and you might be able to camouflage it with acrylic paint. Personally I would be afraid to try hairspray or rubbing because I would be worried that the ink might bleed through to the outside ever worse. I don't know if washing would hurt it, but it might run.

The safest thing is to surface clean it inside and out (and perhaps try touching up the outside ink spot, although it may be hard to cover.)

At that point I would ask myself "am I comfortable carrying this bag in the current condition?" If yes, I would carry and enjoy it. If no, I would probably try more drastic steps with the knowledge that I risk ruining the bag. A lot depends on how expensive the bag is and how much I want to carry it, good luck!

Hey chowlover2, this is the bag I bought myself for my birthday, and was supposed to be my last one.... but have already broken the ban! She is in pretty good shape - leather is good, straps are good, a couple of marks and a few very small nicks in the leather. I gave her a quick bath last night as she was very out of shape and has some indentations from being stored with something heavy pressing down on her. The colour is fantastic, really rich and warm.

Did you post your Bal bags? I've been a bit busy and not online so much for the last week

Hey Jen, I love the kisslock tote you posted in the Authenticate thread. Have never seen that color before, is she in good shape?

No, I haven't posted the Bal bags. I have been having problems with my laptop. After looking I finally ordered one online and it arrived Fri. I set it up, and could not get the cursor to move. I thought perhaps I was tired, set it aside and would try Sat. I tried Sat, no luck, called customer service, and we tried everything the Tech Repair guy knew. No luck, the cursor still stuck in the opper left hand corner. He told me to call a direct # and get another. I called Mon, they are supposed to send me an email and a Fedex return slip. Still no luck, no idea when it will or when my new laptop will arrive. I haven't forgotten about you and the Bals though, just bear with me-LOL!

Oh dear! Wish I could help you with the computer stuff, but I am hopeless. I will wait patiently for your pics.... as best I can anyway! :D

I researched this thread and didn't find much on repairing a "slice" in the leather so I wanted to ask the experts!

I just bought this burgundy shoulder purse today and noticed it has a light/minor slice in the leather thats about 1 1/2' long.

Do any of you have a successful method of repairing this or do you leave it alone? pics are below:

I would definately be more conservative with light color leather in the future. It broke my heart with this one!

I've never used it myself but on several leather furniture repair sites they sell a leather filler for cracks like that. But then you have to dye the filler. It seem like you might be able to just glue it.

My stewardess is in excellent shape so I don't want to bathe her. However, the ends of her straps are wrinkled and curling up. I tried ironing and flattening under a stack of books but they are still rumply. Any suggestions?

I have at least one, maybe two bags waiting in the queue where i plan to dunk just the strap for this reason. It seems like the straps with buckles curl up.

And "hello" everyone! I've not been around much the last couple weeks, things shoukd settle after this weekend.

As upset as I am with myself for ruining (worsening) my white bag, I think it serves as a good opportunity to practice my paint skill.

Would you please tell me where you purchase the acrylic paint from, any tips for choosing the color, what ratio (paint:lotion) to use, and if I need to wait for the bag to become completely dry before painting? Thanks so much!

Oh, you poor dears (both you and your bag!)...I've had success using the little bottles of acrylics available at Walmart or craft stores like Michael's: Folklore Plaid, Ceramcoat and Apple Barrel Colors. Some are matte finish, some glossy. I would think glossy would help restore the finish. The tricky business is mixing the color. I used white and Linen for my City Bag, but your color choices will likely be different, as different brands name their colors differently. I would suggest you mix the color in container with a tightly close-able lid, and make more than you will need - a couple of tablespoons maybe. Dab a little of your mixture on a piece of paper and let it dry thoroughly to check the color, as it may change as it dries. Once you are happy with your color, take out maybe a teaspoon and add some conditioner to it to thin it down, maybe 50/50. You can apply with your fingers or a t-shirt scrap. At any point during this process, you can wash it all off if you're not happy - it's good to have a damp sponge nearby. The idea is to gradually rebuild the color, a thin layer at a time. Let it dry completely between coats, the label will tell you how long, as it may vary between brands. After a few coats, hopefully you will begin to see a positive change. Once you've got it mostly covered, you may need to use a little of your full-strength paint to cover the brightest blue. A sponge-tipped eyeshadow applicator, or your fingers work well for this. Again, work spairingly, dabbing the sponge in the paint, then dabbing on a piece of paper, so there is very little paint on the applicator. I've not worked on pebbled leather, so you've got a challenge to discover the technique that works best for you...Best of Luck!

I know there are other solutions for you...and I'm sure other members here can offer other options/products. Don't panic...stay positive...we're here to help!

I am sorry I didn't back to you sooner with advice to be cautious with ink removal on a light-colored bag.

I have been traveling again and trying to catch up again. I just got back from Cleveland but sadly I wasn't able to get to a Coach boutique or the aurora farms outlet!

I always advise newbies to start with a dark-colored, unlinded, glove-tanned bag in pretty good condition as a first rehab project. It's a lot safer and it helps you to learn the techiques.

Good luck, I have had some rehab disappointments too so don't give up!
