I researched this thread and didn't find much on repairing a "slice" in the leather so I wanted to ask the experts!

I just bought this burgundy shoulder purse today and noticed it has a light/minor slice in the leather thats about 1 1/2' long.

Do any of you have a successful method of repairing this or do you leave it alone? pics are below:

I have never had to deal with a deep scratch like that, but one time I rehabbed a bag that had little cuts in the leather. Not deep, but cuts. I am not sure how to explain this, but if you used a small sharp tool (needle, toothpick) if was possible to partially lift small flaps of leather away from the bag.

All I could think to do was to use the small tool to carefully spread leather-safe fabric glue on the cut and try and seal the flap down. It helped but it wasn't great.

Sorry I don't have better advice, let us know what you decide to do and how it turns out. Good luck!

I did a Whitney bag rehab a while back. It's a nice bag. Roomy but not too heavy and I love the pockets.

I actually thought it only had the 2 front pockets then the small one, but I got to inspecting the bag while waiting on my daughter and found the 3rd pocket, I am so excited by the Whitney bag. I did purchase a Suede laced small slim duffle dated 2002, from Ebay and I can't wait to get her either I am looking forward to finding more finds. I did purchase my first Coach bag at FP and then got lucky and found the 2 others I purchased. Does anyone else have the Watermelon Hampton?? ( I got mine from Dillards and I know Macy's sell the same one, not sure if the color is exclusive to the Department stores)

hmmm something to ponder. What kind of glue would you recommend?

I went to Joann's Fabric and Hobby store and they had an entire aisle of adhesives. I picked a fabric glue that listed leather among the types of fabrics and materials that were safe to use with the glue. They had lots of them.

I use this glue often when I reattach the 2 halves of leather hangtags that have come apart with age. It works great.

There is another very handy product that I get at Joann's but I have never tried it on leather. It is called Fray Check and you dab it on fraying cloth and it dries clear and stops the damage. It is useful for a lot of things.

Remember to always spot check in an obscure area of the bag, good luck!

...and the rest of my summer free time. I finally got enough nerve to drag out my bins full of thrift shop Coach fixer-uppers. Anybody wanna become a refurb. intern ? LOL.

OMG, you have got some great bags waiting for your attentions!

Yum! Can I pre-order? :p

LOL....he wasn't home when I started,.... except he decided to come home for lunch while I was taking pictures so I told him....don't worry, these are the bags I"m selling....so he wasn't too upset about that part haha
A few of these are gonna be "keepers" though, which is why there are a few that were in my collection photo. But over all, even some of my collection may have to go once I decide what I can part with from that group as well.

I confess I haven't read this whole thread, I was checking out the Coach section for something else. I saw this thread and couldn't help telling everyone about Rago Shoe Repair in Morristown, NJ. They do all repairs for most of the high end luxury brands nationwide. It started with Short Hills Mall stores sending them their stuff then the individual brands started sending them all their stuff from all stores nationwide. They have hard to find metal bits that the companies supply them with too. They do amazing work, I feel spoiled that I'm able to get to them easily. No I'm not related to them, I just think they do really good work. Hope this helps someone.

thank you....I remember you commenting that you were afraid to pull all your bags out to see how much you actually had...well, I guess I should have been just as afraid. :D But I needed to do it while I still had an open "studio" instead of a living room for a short while yet. Now I feel a bit overwhelmed but excited to remember what I actually have to work on !! (Of course, now it's your turn to pull a bunch out and show em to us LOL.

lucky you...I sure wish I had a local place I knew I could trust. we used to have this very amazing cobbler who retired --and the reviews for the new owners has been a bit shaky.

I found out her info this morning, she is a Whitney bag from the light weight line from the early 1990's

I will definately take the plunge and see if I can't get her looking a spiffy and wide awake, right now she looks looks tired :D
As far as ink spots, some of my purses that are in good condition have light ink marks. I have learned that it is better to leave these alone because trying to clean them will sometimes leave you with a white spot surrounding the ink. If the bag has scratches and loss of color, then I would try to clean the ink spots because I know I am going to have to do some cosmetic work on it anyway.

Good luck. Make sure you post pics of your results.

I have the striped Hamptons shoulder bag which has watermelon lining. It isn't available from Coach. I got it at Macy's. In the leather, they only had the black when I was looking.

Thank you for the info, and I sure will when I do the project I am going to do bunches of research here on the site for the rehab, besides what has been suggested and I have been told... so that I feel confident in what I am doing when I go into the rehab, I don't want to make any mistakes, well ok that many mistakes if I make any...lol

I love the Hampton I got, I got it from Dillard's and it is the Signature CC fabric watermelon leather on the bottom and trim the handles are watermelon color also and it has the watermelon color lining, it is so pretty :smile1:

I have a tan whitney that I rehabbed a while back.
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452-195.html on this page about halfway down I posted before and after pics.

Anyways, I bought the bag for 5 dollars since it was in such terrible condition. I loved the style of it and found later after i was able to look up the style number that it was the whitney duffle. Thought the pockets were awesome then noticed that the section behind the big main section and where flap attaches on the back basically is a whole other huge section but it's kind of hidden. This bag is SUPER durable (mine was made in '96) and yet lightweight, feels great when you wear it crossbody and everything about it is perfect to me.

Pick Me, Pick Me!!! LOL

I would love to get into rehabbing (sp?) but I've been into rehabbing dogs for almost 10 years...I work in Boston Terrier/French Bulldog Rescue and that keeps me insanely busy. Coming here to tPF did open up a whole new world for me...the older thick leather bags with interesting shapes...as well as classic styles. I've added five or six so far...as I've let go of a few bags I already had except for two old Dooney's. I can't bear to sell them for $50..they're in pristine condition and truly vintage. LOL
