Thanks so much Angelaira~! Your experiment definately will help me out!

WOuld you let us know in 24 hours which product works best (even if not perfect)? I just purchased a blackrocks and hope it will at least minimize the look of " dryness".

I must say I am rather disappointed by Coach moisturzer. It does not work that well even on my Coach bags. Is it made as a light-weight thing for maintainence purpose only?

I have some similar bags by Dooney and Bourke, and I haven't had much luck getting the corners right. The Blackrocks had very little effect, and normal moisturizer (Glove CPR) didn't do anything to fix those areas. It is a very flat orange leather, so any attempt to use paint probably will show, so I have stopped trying to get them perfect.

I gave one a bath this past week:

You can see in the last photo that the corners on that bag are still the same after a complete bath and after drying.

I pulled that bag out and did an experiment so you can see how different moisturizers will work:

We think they make the Coach products so you buy more Coach bags! They carry Lexol at Wal-Mart with the car wax products. I was there yesterday to see if they had any thing new and different to try. The Blackrock will darken it a bit, and preserve the leather from any more damage. It also repels water.

DO you prefer Lexol over Blackrock because Lexol does not change color?

I basically use the Lexol as a cleaner, and the Blackrock's as a preservative. I also use a product I found on Ebay ( and talked about here ) called Leather Therapy. After I wash a Coach bag ( the older unlined bags ) and let it dry partially, I let the Leather Therapy soak in to renew the leather. I do that on 3 consecutive days, then apply the Blackrocks, 2-3 coats to protect. Your bag is in good shape, I would maybe just go over with saddle soap or Lexol, then use the Blackrocks to protect the bag. I use my hands for rubbing all the products in, then polish with an old towel. If temps are too cold where you are, you can warm the Blackrocks with a hair dryer and makes it easier to apply. You just want to apply in small 3 in circles and then buff.

I will take a pic tomorrow, and add it so you can see the results!

Has anyone ever used "Mink Oil" on your leather?

Mink oil is usually not pure, it is usually diluted and mixed with other things, like silicone, that are generally not good for leather. The link to Docrides Hermes thread a page or two back here mentions Mink oil, and she says unless you milked the mink yourself, it is probably not a good idea to use it.

I've perused this thread looking for step by step explanations for dyeing a leather bags. I've seen some finished works and am impressed. :smile1:

Is the leather bag dipped into the dye or does the dye get brushed on?

I posted a thread in the Care and Maintenance forum and the only response I received is that since my bag is coated (or whatever), dipping in dye will only get me uneven color so my ony choice would be to have it professionally done. That's out of the question since the bag I speak of would not be worth spending a lot of money on to refurbish.

That said, I did find a blog of someone who has dyed her handbags but I'd like to get feedback here where I can ask questions if need be.

Nekolassa dyed a vintage Cashin bag that is in her avatar. Try going back in the thread, to about page 160 or so. She gave all the details for dying the bag. Her bag came out awesome! Or PM her.
