First up, this is quick look at the rehab on my black kisslock slim tote. I used the same procedure as for my black patricias legacy of a little while ago - bath, dye with wood stain and condition. This one will be for my personal collection, so I will be able to give feed back on the longer term performance of the wood stain. I have borrowed an newer hang tag for the after shot. What do you think - keep the tag or is it better without one?

Very, very nice...even my hubby said, "Wow!" Well done - she looks new again!

Now for the result. The lanolin did darken the bag, and the stains have disappeared unless you look hard. The leather is much improved, although still not as good as the black tote. I think I may have overworked the leather and am now carrying her to see how she goes. I will probably use my Oakwood leather conditioner in a week or so and see what happens. My main concern is the straps - they are a little perished and I'm not sure if this will get worse. I can't get a good picture of them to include here. I haven't had any rub off of colour while wearing the bag. I also haven't done anything with the slices, and you can see them in the picture.

I am really enjoying carrying this bag too. She's very comfortable and works well as a modern bag, even though she is over 30 years old

Another amazing job...This bag has straps that look similar tot the Lite Tote I put Minwax on a while ago. They were very stiff, but with lots and lots of conditioning they have relaxed somewhat, and after carrying her a few times, are good to go. I love the patina on this bag. And I think stripping the leather off the kisslock was a brilliant idea. Nice contrast against the dark leather.

Oh, and I like the hangtag on the black one, too!

Oh, this thread makes me crazy sometimes!! I love the kisslock bags, and the burgundy one looks terrific!! Great call on taking off the leather, I think the gold is lovely on the side!
Katev, that bag is so cute, and I love the chain strap!!

Well, I have been to the Coach store near my house four times in two days. We went yesterday to find the perfect tag for my husband's Metropolitan briefcase. I got it on E-Bay for about $80 and cleaned it up and moisturized it, and it looks really good now. They gave us a really cute brass tag that is a circle that has a spinning disc in the center... I will post a pic, lol! He carried it for the first time today, and already got a bunch of compliments from co-workers!
Here it is:

I then ran back because they had a brass tag in the box that would look great on my Quincy, so I asked for it and they gave it to me.
Well, today I decided to take the strap of my Stewardess in to get new grommets. You cannot mail in just the strap, you have to mail in the whole bag. Ok, ran home, grabbed the bag, drove back over, and they are mailing my Stewardess in for repairs... I have my fingers crossed that I didn't just waste $20 on a 40% off coupon! Oh, and you cannot order grommets either... I tried that too, and they said no, you would have to mail the bag in for repairs to get new grommets... Argh!!!

Beautiful job on the briefcase...I'm thinking I need to visit our outlet store for some tags...never (really!) been there!

I figure, in my entire collection so far, not including a Zoe that was a gift from a friend, and my peach colored Audrey, and my Kristin, that were gifts from my husband, that the rest of them all cost me under what I would have paid for one Louis Vuitton. And, in the process, I learned to clean them, care for them, shop for them, I learned a lot about buying on E-Bay, and I learned a few things about selling on E-Bay as well. Not to mention, it has kept me busy for a few months. Since I was alone for part of that time, and my son is separated from me for the first time ever, anything that kept me busy and kept my mind off of it was more than welcome. And, I paid for all of them myself, including the briefcase that my husband now loves. It has been a great experience, and I am not totally done yet, but I am pretty happy with my collection.

For me, first there was retail therapy (the hunt for bag deals); now there's rehab therapy (rescuing them from someone else's travesties). Oh, I'd still like to be shopping like I did a few years ago (when my business was thriving in a better economy), but there is such wonderful satisfaction in returning a hot mess of a bag back to "ooh, that looks brand new!" I still consider my collection an investment, and gaining value with every rehab.

It's so good to know we're all in this together..and cheering each other on!

Ok, so I have a question...
Where are these sellers getting these little keychains? Here are some examples:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-COA...s=63&clkid=8262566772657470064#ht_7776wt_1215

http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-LEATH...H_Handbags&hash=item41649f0d1b#ht_6904wt_1294

And there is another seller that I can't find right now, thath as a bunch of them on all the bags she has listed... they are cute, but I don't think they are all Coach, and I am wondering what they are and where they are coming from!

This was on the AT thread...

A lot of chat about keychains right around this post.

Early this year, before I became a member in February, I read and read and read the Coach AT thread and ALL the Rehab Club posts...What an education!

Now this? Docride is amazing! Another master's class in leather care and rehab...and NO tuition!

THANKS...I'm going to back to school right now :) !
She is amazing isn't she? I can't stop reading the thread.

Dear All,

I am new to the Coach forum. Hello to all of you all and thank you for the wealth of information on restoring these vintage leather beauty!

My first "designer bag" is very special to me, because it was purchased using my hard-earned income from teaching piano lessons in college. I have rarely used it for the fear of wearing it out too fast, as a result most of the bag looks mint and beautiful after "many year" still . HOWEVER, as you can see from the two pictures below, the corners on the bottom and the top are dried out and color faded. I am not even sure what had caused these as I have been as careful as humanly possible with it. :roflmfao:

Anyways, I have tried Coach leather conditioner on them and it made no noticeable differences. Would you kindly advise what I should try next? Should I try Lexol or Blackrock for this particular condition? Thank you so much!

I would use the Lexol wipes for any spot cleaning, and Blackrocks on the corner wear. ( 2-3 applications )You can see she has been taken care of, she is pristine!

I have some similar bags by Dooney and Bourke, and I haven't had much luck getting the corners right. The Blackrocks had very little effect, and normal moisturizer (Glove CPR) didn't do anything to fix those areas. It is a very flat orange leather, so any attempt to use paint probably will show, so I have stopped trying to get them perfect.

I gave one a bath this past week:

You can see in the last photo that the corners on that bag are still the same after a complete bath and after drying.

I pulled that bag out and did an experiment so you can see how different moisturizers will work:
