ledobe is asking you if the wallet has a fabric lining on the inside or is the inside just the sueded backside of the leather. If the wallet is unlined then you could easily give it a bath in warm water and soap and let it dry on a towel. There is a lot of instruction in this thread on how to give the unlined leather bags(or wallets) a "bath".

Me too, only want the made in USA and I've been pretty lucky in finding good ones for not too much. I only have 2 NYC ones, though and one is one that I already had that was my grandmother's. The NYC leather really is the best. I wouldn't blame anyone for only wanting those. And I agree that this kind of quality will become extinct before too long.

That's what I look for too, but I have to say, my made in Costa Rica (2001) red stewardess bag is as soft and cushy as I could ever ask for.

I too have a Costa Rica Stewardess and their leather was just TEENSY bit lighter, which on a big bag like a Stewardess, is a very good thing. And, yet, it's still really substantial feeling and soft. Very nice.

Honestly, I couldn't be happier with that bag. I spent a little more and it didn't need rehabbing but it was worth it and it makes me happy.

And yes, there is a difference in the leather. In fact, I'm currently rehabbing that 2001 city bag and the old NYC basic bag and there is a noticeable difference in the leather.

I just conditioned both bags and oooh what a difference. The basic bag after 3 or 4 baths was feeling like cardboard but I didn't want to condition it once I decided to dye it. I rubbed in some apple with a little fiebings dye and just one treatment made a huge difference.

The city bag wasn't as dry but I can tell a differnce right away. I hope that bag comes out carryable, she came from the rough side of the city!

aww poor city bag. Great bag though so I hope she comes through for you!! I' sure she will..you've been doing some great stuff on here!
I have two NYC basic bags and they are seriously a strong enough leather to go out on a battlefield.

My basic bag might end up being my "concert bag". I like a variety of music but I often hit some pretty rowdy shows.

I need to find a longer strap for it though, you'd think I would have one BT bag with a dog leash strap so I could switch around but, no luck, all buckles.

I need help!

I recently bought an orange soft satchel and she is gorgeous. I knew she had issues and this is where you guys come in. She has an ink stain that starts inside and goes outside (I'm ok with this one), she has another 2.5-3.0 inch pen mark.line on the outside, not totally ok with that. I do not want to paint her, so I used rubbing alcohol with a cotton swab and some ink came off but not all of it, worst is I lightened the leather. http://www.flickr.com/photos/76058330@N03/

She received a bath and you can clearly see that the area treated with alcohol is lighter-YIKES! She is light orange and I am thinking blackrock leather conditioner, I need your help on this one. I will paint this small area if I have to but I don't want to, help me......what should I do here any suggestions? She's drying right now but you can see how light she is in the before wash photos.

Blackrocks may help even out the color but it may be necessary to overpaint that area, sorry

Hyacinth authenticated this bone Dinky Bag as being from the late 70s to 1987. I paid $5.99 at Salvation Army back in 2007 and she's been in my closet ever since - still with the price tag on!

I just had no fear of this one! Having recently done two bone rehabs, I was armed and ready with paint and everything! What? No Need?

I'll post some after pics in a day or so, after a little touch up on the edges of the strap and some all-over conditioning...AFTER my hands aren't RED anymore (pink fingerprints would NOT be pretty!).

I can't believe all the fantastic bags that you have had stashed in you closet for years, you really have a good eye for vintage bags!

Hyacinth, DemRam, BeenBurned, NSP and all the authenticators are great. Even when I am almost certain that the bag is authentic I ask for their opinion, because I been fooled and because I learn so much from them!

Those are gorgeous in the photo!!! I have a Madison Carlyle in black on the way... I wanted a round bag anyway, and that one seems like a gorgeous one that I will probably actually carry. I am 6' tall, with back problems from military service that limit the amount of weight I can carry on my shoulder comfortably, so I have found that most of the Coach smaller bags are really nice for me. I really want a Gracie as well, I love the look, and I think having a bag that I can carry on my arm like that might be better for my back. I am watching one on e-bay... hoping no one else bids it up, but I suspect there might be a shill bidder on it, as the main bidder has only 5 feedbacks...

Thanks! I love my Italian family!

Gracie is really special but she is very tiny! My Gracies is missing the strap (it was only $2!) but intact Gracie bags come with an insanely long strap.

The Carlyle is a very unique shape but again it is pretty small. I don't mind smallish bags but I wear eyeglasses all the time so I always have one pair on my face and another pair in my bag (sunglasses or regular glasses). I need a bag that can accomodate my eyewear plus my other essentials.

And Katev, how many Coach bags do you have in your collection? My curiosity is piqued now because every time I do a google search for a rare bag, I get a purse forum link and sure enough, it is yours...

I haven't counted, I probably should but then I would be embarrassed! I have given quite a few of my rehab projects away, but I keep buying more! And I have a whole bunch that are just sitting and waiting for attention. I think I need a purse intervention, please stop me before I buy more!!!

Hi, I just bought this type of wallet but it kind of smells smoky and like an old car.

The odor makes me dizzy too. It comes from all parts of the wallet; outside, inside the pockets...

Any tips on how to go about cleaning/removing this odor from the wallet?

(The link has many views of the wallet if you need a reference)

I just bought the same wallet, from a different seller. Mine is here:
http://www.etsy.com/transaction/80290641

I was planning to wash it, so I can do so and let you know how it turns out. The best way to get rid of a smell like that is usually to wash it and let it soak, and then keep it in an enclosed small space (maybe a box?) with baking soda while it is drying to help absorb the odors.
