I use Obenaufs in conjuction with Blackrocks and love it! I follow Docrides "recipe" on my LV Vachetta bags. You have to layer back and forth mutliple applications with buffing in between of each product. The Obenaufs is great and smells like honey and also inhibts mold growth as well.Has anyone here used Obenauf's? Docride reccommend's it on the Hermes thread. I bought a new Dooney & Bourke before the holidays. It's the Vachetta leather, therefore not waterproof. I had a D & B many years ago that I carried in a rainstorm and the leather was damaged. I was steamed because I paid alot for the bag, and thought it would be waterproof. Anyway, I don't want to make that mistake again, but don't really want to make the leather darker which I think the Blackrock's may do ( Obenauf's as well ) Any ideas???
Hope you are feeling better soon and congrats on your new bags!I am home with the flu today, but the postman has just been and I have my first 1970s Coach. She is a black kisslock slim tote, and will be just the right size for all my essentials. I think I will give her a bath and maybe some wood stain treatment first though.
The postie also deliverd a gorgeous red berkeley reverse saddle bag. Lovely, but small. Will have to travel light with her
Amazing how much better I feel!
Thanks, I just ordered a jar!I use Obenaufs in conjuction with Blackrocks and love it! I follow Docrides "recipe" on my LV Vachetta bags. The only thing is...it will make the leather darker with the more applications you put on. I happen to like the warm honey color it develops though. Hope that helps!
They are gorgeous, what beautiful dogs!Rita, my female is very queenly ( red one w/black face ) If she gives you her paw it's like she is doing you a favor. My boy Beau is like a Golden Retriever and huge, 100 lbs. He is so easy going and loveable. I call them my posse as they are glued to me if I so much as go to the bathroom. Rita is an avid hunter, she flushes birds out of tress when we walk, has caught snakes and mice, and is very athletic for a Chow. She has climbed over my 4 ft cyclone fence and jumped a 3 ft brick wall. Very odd as Chows are the throw rugs of the dog world. She is very athletic, just turned 7 and is slowly down just a bit. Beau the baby ( 2 yrs ) is a throw rug. We walk, and if something catches Rita's keen hunting eye, he will just sit and wait for her to do her thing. Yesterday afternoon I caught a glimpse of him laying on his back on the porch, not a care in the world. They are very keen watch dogs, I live by myself and I need them to look after me. I always say they won't always do what I want them too, but if threatened they will fight to the death for me.:doggie::doggie:
Your Dobes are beautiful---I have a soft spot for the breed, too. I grew up with a gorgeous girl that was a goofball until someone knocked on the door, then she was all business.People always ask me the same question about my dobes-people think they look regal but they're the biggest goofs ever. Chows seem like a more serious breed, however.

If you look closely the female has a tuggy toy under her foot to keep it from the male, and they're both got leaves and grass on them from playing in the yard. They're completely worn out from playing, which is the only reason they look so relaxed. Otherwise, I can get them to lay down next to each other, but it looks tense and posed.
oh what? this isn't a pet thread? sorry. my male needed quite a bit of rehabbing from the abusive home I got him from, if that makes it any better.![]()
I feel the same way. I only have vintage bags now--almost all NYC ones. You just can't beat that leather in my opinion. That's the problem with some of the older Coach bags, too small. The thing is, as I get older I really don't want to carry alot of junk around, so I am trying to downsize. Is it weong of me to only want Coach Made in NYC or United States bags? The quality was so much better. I go into the stores today and cringe when I look at some of the new Coach bags. It's like what happened here? Quality & leather really went downhill, they definitely won't be around 40-50 yrs from now.
Hope you are feeling better soon and congrats on your new bags!
Sorry about your Dobes-it is definitely the worst part about being a pet owner. We lost our resued Pit Bull/Boxer mix to cancer last year and it is just like losing a member of the family. My other dogs ( 3 Chihuahuas and a Great Dane) all looked around for her for days-broke my heart. Anyway, I hope you are able to have a new addition ot your family soon.Shiba Inus are adorable. I don't see myself without a dobe ever. Well, I am right now, both of the dobes in the picture recently passed, one at age 11 and one at 13. I have a little too much going on right now to actively look for another, but I feel like when the right dog (most likely rescue) happens, I'll know it. It might not happen to be a dobe, but it probably will and if not, I won't be dobeless for long.
So glad you were able to add Beau to your family--he is such a beautiful boy!My boy died May 8, 2010, I brought Beau home May 15th. I had 2 reasons for acting fast. First off, cream males are so hard to come by, both parents have to have the recessive gene. Second, I was on vacation for 10 days starting May 15th, and I like to " bond " with my puppies. When I found him I jumped. I live near Philadelphia, and Beau was all the way on the other side of the state, south of Pittsburgh. My Uncle and I left at 9( with Rita ) took the turnpike 6 hrs west, picked Beau up at 3, and saw his Mom, Dad and big brother. Left at 3:30 turned around and came back home.Luckily, I love to drive as does Rita. She didn't want to leave the car when we got home at 9:30. It was a long day.
I need help!
I recently bought an orange soft satchel and she is gorgeous. I knew she had issues and this is where you guys come in. She has an ink stain that starts inside and goes outside (I'm ok with this one), she has another 2.5-3.0 inch pen mark.line on the outside, not totally ok with that. I do not want to paint her, so I used rubbing alcohol with a cotton swab and some ink came off but not all of it, worst is I lightened the leather. http://www.flickr.com/photos/76058330@N03/
She received a bath and you can clearly see that the area treated with alcohol is lighter-YIKES! She is light orange and I am thinking blackrock leather conditioner, I need your help on this one. I will paint this small area if I have to but I don't want to, help me......what should I do here any suggestions? She's drying right now but you can see how light she is in the before wash photos.
What an awesome story! I am a firm believer in fate and sometimes things are just meant to be.are you saying they work together to open the door? or that they each have their own way of doing it? Jessie, the dobe I had before my two doberterrors could open gates, but she would never leave her area. It was like her little joke and you could just see the gleam in her eyes when she did it. She was, I have to say, the most perfect dog ever...sigh.
And I swore I wasn't going to talk about this any more, but...your story about how you got your boy reminds me. When Jessie turned 10 she was still going strong but my kids were little and as much as I knew I would be heartbroken when she died (she went everywhere with me), I thought it would be easier on the kids if there was no gap so we got Scarlett as a puppy...again this is another dog that was "right place, right time". I'm a big advocate of rescue and I purchased her from a breeder I wouldn't normally have supported, but I was kind of in a hurry and I loved the parents and took the plunge. Turned out she had a deformity (my dog had two anuses) and should never have been bred. Worked out find for us as we were going to spay her anyway, but the vet told me that she could have other deformities and never should be bred-if she'd gone to the wrong home you know that advice would have been ignored. She was perfect-gentle with the kids, quite the little lady.
Six months after we got Scarlett Jessie was diagnosed with cancer and passed away soon after. I was up all night with her in a snow storm and she died at home.
Turns out a good friend of mine was one state away in an even worse snow storm delivering puppies. These were extremely well bred pups from famous dogs and they were all spoken for and went for a high price. However one of the puppy owners reported nothing but problems and finally the breeder took the dog back. He had a different name then but they were afraid to even TOUCH Justin when they first got him back. I'm kind of amazed I risked bringing him home considering I had a 6 year old and a 10 year old at home, but I knew his mother and grandfather well, and they were two of the best dogs ever. I can't emphasize enough that this breeder was one of the most well respected breeders ever. So I risked it, J-Mo lived to be 13 and he was BORN THE SAME DAY MY JESSIE DIED!
Like I said, the right dog will happen...
Did you see the post where Docride rehabbed a patent Kelly from the '60's. Link is in Ladyravens post at top of the page. Anyway, she paid under $500 and says she is now a $5-6K bag. I too would love a Hermes, I'm gonna use the Coaches to hone my skills and maybe one day I'll find a Hermes at a good price to rehab!I was just reading the Hermes threads, because I want a Birkin... someday... but after what I just saw, I am not so sure... one lady reported that the Palladium peeled off her metal hardware with the plastic sticker, and another thread reports that they are now being made with thinner leather. Really?? One day I will finally be able to afford one, and by then there won't be any being made that are worth having!! And there is yet another thread reporting that 98% of the second hand ones are really super fakes... Ack!!! So, to get a real one you have to now go through the waiting list, two years the last time I checked, to get on the waiting list from the hold list... and now even the ones from the store are being made with shoddy materials... I am liking my Coach classic bags more and more every day!!
Wow that is a stunning color...the grain is really pretty and unusual.Hyacinth (my new best friend) authenticated this RED 2001 Legacy Small Hobo for me this morning! I paid $9.99 at Goodwill back in 2008. One of my favorite bags, this one had lots of black stuff (!) where the leather folds under the buckles. While its packed and on my shoulder, not so noticeable, but when sitting with straps down, yuck! Also there were some spots of unknown origin on the inside, probably candy from who knows when!
After I treated the brass with my vinegar, salt & flour mix, she went into a warm, sudsy bath.
YIKES! Was this thing dunked in a vat of cherry Kool-Aid, or accidentally dropped while toting a bottle of fine cabernet?
My red Basic Bag certainly didnt bleed like this (though this bag was always darker than any of my other reds! Most of the color seemed to come from the inside (!) of the bag and turned my hands the same lovely shade as the bath water. And it wont come off - even with Orange Clean, Comet or Purell!.
Shes stuffed and drying outside now, and is looking more brown than red ??? The grain of this leather is very unusual...I hope she dries well. More in a few days...
