My Basic Bag. I am so excited about this one because it is such a nice bag!!!

http://coachbagrehab.blogspot.com/2012/05/coach-basic-bag.html

And I included a photo of my canine helpers... Mokey is the blurry one in the front, and Shoji is laying under her, lol!
Gorgeous bag! Your Chi's are very sweet too! I have 3 of them and they definitely rule the house! My Great Dane just ignores them--I think she doesn't believe they are really dogs:p

Did you see the post where Docride rehabbed a patent Kelly from the '60's. Link is in Ladyravens post at top of the page. Anyway, she paid under $500 and says she is now a $5-6K bag. I too would love a Hermes, I'm gonna use the Coaches to hone my skills and maybe one day I'll find a Hermes at a good price to rehab!:smile1:
I have always wanted a vintage Birkin in Barenia leather--it's a saddle leather similar to the thick glove tanned British Tan vintage Coach leather. However with 4 kids, 4 dogs and a husband, vintage Coach rehab projects for $20 are more in my budget than a $10,000 Birkin. Maybe someday!

Wow- sorry girls didn't mean to hijack the thread with all of my posts. I have been super busy at work since I was promoted and the boys baseball season has started so life has been crazy and I haven't had much a chance to check in! I think I am having withdrawal-lol! I have been rehabbing a tan watermelon tote that is definitely a challenge. I will post pics when I am done. Good to "see" you all again!

We have three kids and two dogs spread over three states, so yeah, a Birkin is secondary to plane tickets, child support, dog food, etc. etc.... But, we have a lot of fun, and I wouldn't have it any other way!!

oh that is a great bag. I am rehabbing a red city bag that had light ink on the front flap...I very carefully applied alcohol to that area and then washed it and it did dry lighter. It needed two more baths and I tried using gel hand sanitizer over the whole flap to even it out. It's wet now so I'm not sure how it will look, I'll report back. I felt like lightening one whole section of the leather wouldn't be very noticeable.

Also keep in mind that the alcohol treatment might affect the way the bag is absorbing the water so it may be less noticeable when dry & conditioned.

Fortunately I'm not really emotionally invested in this one, I almost bought it as a rehab challenge more than anything, but yours is too cool to let go!

You're right about the alcohol absorbing the water differently, as it is drying, it is looking much better. I might opt to just cover the small stain with acrylic paint! Thanks Ladies!

I got four bags in the mail today, a Willis style briefcase, a Willis in black, and two bags from the Geometrics collection, one square, and one with a front turnlock, both black. My husband is home again, and he laughed the whole way from the mailbox carrying all my boxes! The briefcase is for him, and it is in great condition, so he couldn't even be upset... I washed them all in the bathtub together, and now they are drying on the fireplace...

OH good, I was hoping that's what it was. I couldn't really tell where on the bag the ink was, is it supernoticeable?

Hi, I just bought this type of wallet but it kind of smells smoky and like an old car.

The odor makes me dizzy too. It comes from all parts of the wallet; outside, inside the pockets...

Any tips on how to go about cleaning/removing this odor from the wallet?

(The link has many views of the wallet if you need a reference)

Ok, so in rehabbing my basic bag, which I have before pictures of in my blog... I think I have found the Holy Grail of Coach early bags.
This bag is heavy, like the New York Bags, it has the Talon zipper that opens and closes like butter. Only, on this bag, the Talon zipper is brass, and the ring holding the leather to the zipper is also solid brass. So, the fading and faded nickel ring that is so common on the New York bags is gone on this bag, and the leather is amazing!! It is still drying on day two, it is thick and heavy, and it is coming out gorgeous!!
This bag has a very unusual creed, it says "Made in USA" under the creed. I have some Made in New York bags, and I have some Made in the United States bags, but this is the only bag I have that says Made in USA, and I would put forth that this bag is the one I want to find more of!! The little brass connectors for the handle are a little more rough, and they have a tiny anchor molded into them. The tag is one sided, and has the word Leatherware under where it says Coach, like on the New York bags, and the creed also has Leatherware under where it says Coach.

hmmm..I should really study your photos! sounds very interesting and wonderful too

I feel the same way. I only have vintage bags now--almost all NYC ones. You just can't beat that leather in my opinion.

Me too, only want the made in USA and I've been pretty lucky in finding good ones for not too much. I only have 2 NYC ones, though and one is one that I already had that was my grandmother's. The NYC leather really is the best. I wouldn't blame anyone for only wanting those. And I agree that this kind of quality will become extinct before too long.

There are several threads about this topic scattered around, but in a nutshell the stuff that seems to help are mainly: seal the wallet into an air tight container with some baking soda for a few days or as long as you can patiently stand it, and you can change out the baking soda as much as you want too, doesn't hurt....if that isn't enough, I"ve bought charcoal pellets that would go into a fish tank (I know nothing about fish tanks tho') and I've put about a cup full into a stocking or something breathable that can be tied off, and sealed that tightly for a week or so. Could throw in a few scented dryer sheets for good measure too if you'd like to double whammy a scent change/fix. The other thing that helps is literally "airing" it as much as you can outside, without letting it be fully hit with the sun. a breezy cloudy day or a shady spot would be great. I've done all of the above to varying results. It honestly depends on how smoke- saturated the item is. IF the seller didn't disclose that, then they should take it back!! But that's just my $.02!! Hope that helps
