Honestly, i've never heard of it because of shopping too much but only returning too much. I have heard that Coach does over see ebay sometimes and will get members who sell a lot for a profit info and ban them.

actually sprinkles it happens way more then you'd think.

my store unfortunately banned a woman from buying any further products because she's a reseller. note, resellers are known at coach and there is nothing we can do until corporate steps in.

we have resellers at our store who are careful not to shop too much to arise corporate's notice.

as for the thread starter, i'm sorry i forgot your name already, i'm sorry that that has happened to you, if you explain to the SA you could even buy more then three of something for an occasion, coach does make exceptions.

the lady that was banned spent over ten thousand each time, and has done so in a period of three days, four times. which is why she was "red flagged" in ours system

you must have spent a lot to catch their interest (i myself am curious as to that amount)

or you were just unlucky.

good luck explaining to cynthia if you ever get to talk to her

My store doesn't have this issue but oh boy, we get a letter every week about fraudulent travlers check/fraudulent returners and so much stuff. One of my top customers actually spends about 3-6k almost every month and we joke that she is a reseller but we know she's not. She's just obsessed and buys a minimum of 5 bags each collection if they fit her needs, it would be ironic if we did find out she was.

I will just jump on in here and be unpopular, so here goes...

From what you described, it sounds as if in Coach's mind, that you are reselling items--Coach has a strict policy about resellers, and anyone caught selling stuff for more than they paid for in the stores can be cut off (I don't know whether or not you did this, but this is definitely their policy). Also, once a matter goes to Corporate and they send you a cease and desist letter, no one other than a Corporate representative will speak with you about the matter. I believe that this is to protect lower-level company employees from becoming involved in any pending litigation. From what I know of the company, if Cynthia Linke is talking to you, the matter is probably pretty serious, as she is their lead Loss Prevention person for Coach Corporate, as I understand it. Once the matter is at her level, she is probably the only one left to speak with.

You are not unpopular with me...you are spot on. This is reselling plain and simple...and a manufacturer has the right to dissallow reselling. Spending $1500 a trip, two times a week, and buying multiple units of the same time - its obvious its not for personal consumption and Coach has the right to protect themselves.

Kinda OT, but I was shopping at Coach one day and a lady literally bought 3 of everything in the store and asked me and my friend if we wanted the things we were carrying too :push: It was pretty obvious she was a reseller (but then again maybe she had another reason for it?), but everyone was sooo nice to her in the store. The manager was basically tripping over her own feet to get this lady everything she wanted. And later one of the SAs told me that she came in here often and did this and they all loved her so I was a little puzzled bc I thought they discouraged resellers.

even though we suspect, we can't say for sure. just like if you looked like a shoplifter, we can't right out say or do anything until we catch you.

so of course, to make the store sales we'd be happy to help someone who buys, esp. if they buy a lot, even if it may be "strange" as long as they don't break the rule.

^ LOL I totally forgot the "nice rule".. it's been a whiile since I've worked retail.

I think I was expecting some entertainment with a big dramatic finish where they whip out a 'you're banned' sign and stick it on her

Another unpopular opinion maybe, but here goes:

Clearly Coach thinks that if you're spending $1500/week or $5-8K per month in there, that you must be reselling. Even considering some of their more expensive bags, we're talking about at least 10 bags per month, minimum. They do know you aren't wearing 10-20 new bags every month yourself (how cool would that be?), but they don't know you have a huge family overseas. IMO they are making a reasonable assumption that you are an unauthorized reseller - I would think the same thing.

Coach does have a legal right to limit sales of their bags to authorized resellers - many companies do this. So it's not all that unbelievable that they would try to stop you from selling, if you're not authorized. However, I do think they should publish whatever their policy is - it makes no sense whatsoever that nobody will tell you what it is. Crazy!

This is the first time i've heard of such thing happening, and its really sad. I really think that for spending that much money, you deserve a VIP card instead.

Regarding reselling on ebay and etc, maybe they shouldn't make Coach wayyyy more expensive outside US. This way, resellers won't make much money and there will not be so many resellers then.

I work in retail, so I can see where Coach is coming from. We had a sales associate fired because she was buying too much Coach from different stores. She would tell me it was for family, but I was suspicious. Obviously, corporate was too.

I wouldn't be surprised if these kinds of bans happenned at other companies. It's one thing to buy a new bag a month but when you start buying multiples, that's when the red flag goes up.

I hope you are able to talk with corporate to clear things up. Good luck!

I had never heard about this before. Although I can understand the reason why a company would put such a policy in effect, I cannot understand why someone (SA?) in the store where this poor girl shopped didn't forwarn her that her heavy purchasing would have EXTREME consequences!!!

They were more than happy to suck up to her and take her money, and then they ban her without any warning. That's pretty FU. It's almost like a set up. Coach is a company that reminds me of a cop who dresses like a hooker and then handcuffs her would-be john and hauls him off to jail (except in this case the john just wanted directions to Sizzler and didn't get a chance to ask b/c the cop just assumed he was trolling for hookers. )
