Just received my Olive tooled bayswater I got off eBay. This bag was a disaster, looks just like my Darwin Bayswater (tooling, rivets, scrolling, etc) but was full of the brown watermarks. I think we all know what those looks like, regardless of the color of the bag. Anyway, I was giving her the 'fill and empy' treatment and the water I emptied out was the color of tea :yucky: So I kept doing the process till the water was fairly clear. Now hanging upside down on a padded mop. I can already see some of the water marks are gone. Will post pics of the before and after when the bag is dry. Will return with updates :p

Update:
So after doing the 'fill and empty' with the bag till the water was relatively clear, before and after pictures

Before:

Excuse my ignorance but this is the first time I have ever heard of this. So if you have a bag with watermarks you soak in/fill with water? For all leathers or only Darwin? I'm amazed at the results - well done!

Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone would be able to advise me about the best products to waterproof my recent acquisitions! I splashed out on a hibiscus Lily (small classic grain) for my birthday last month, then a couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to find a preloved oak Bayswater (natural leather) in near flawless condition. I've read a few posts here to suggest that the Collonil spray is probably best, but what would you suggest? I'm worried about tainting the colour or texture of them, they're so beautiful!

Thanks

Actually, the 'soak in/fill with water' is actually a 'fill and dump' with water. I believe with works better with very large water marks. Small marks can be done with a damp cloth (dabbing) or as I've read, a damp cloth can be laid over the water mark(s).

Hi, I use lord sheraton leather wipes, collonil gel and waterstop spray on my NVT bella satchel. Has given her a lovely even glossy patina all over. Enjoy using your new bags

Hi, I have recently purchased a Mulberry pink postman's lock pocket book. Somehow I have managed to get a stain on the back, but not sure what it is. Can someone tell how to remove it. Many thanks

Hi Laica,

Welcome to the forum :smile1:

Which type of leather is your bag made from? It may have a bearing on which product/s you should use.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, it's the peticoat white Alexa, I think it's buffalo leather. Do you think the collonil cream and spray should be fine? Unless there are other products I should use because of the leather. Any help, would be great, I got it pre loved, she has some wear as the leather has become more crackled. It's my first Mulberry bag so I am a total newbie to it all.

Hi Laica,

Yes, the collonil gel & waterstop will be perfect. If the leather is crackled it might be due to dryness, so the gel will help soften the leather and prevent further issues. The waterstop will give it protection from spills, rain etc and against dirt and colour transfer.

Do share some pics with us in the alexa clubhouse when you have time.

Thanks Mooshooshoo, I'll order some and get to work, I haven't used it yet since I know I need to protect it first, especially since it's so light! So I am right in thinking you use the gel then use the water stop spray? Sorry for all my questions.
I will definitely try and post pictures soon :D

Evening all

I apologise Moderators if this has been posted before, I did do a search honest but couldn't find the answer. :shrugs:

I'm sat here stroking my lovely quilted Cara in its beautiful soft lamb nappa, I also have my water stop spray and gel but don't know what to use.

I would normally waterstop first, twice, and then gel, but I only have NVT, goat and small grain, this feels totally different so thought it best to ask the experts - that's you by the way! :D

Evening Lou,

I tend to use the Collonil gel or if I'm really feeling the love Collonil 1909
http://www.collonil.co.uk/collonil/collonil-premium/1909-leather-lotion
for lambskin. Then will give it a light spray with waterstop afterwards.
