Hi :)

I'm new to Mulberry and I have just bought my first - a preloved flame bryn which i have been searching for forever! I wear dark jeans a lot so i'm very conscious of colour transfer - will using a spray or gel (or both) prevent this completely, or will it just make it easier to come off? and is there a particular order in which you should do it?

thank you very much!!
Hi xocb,

Welcome to the forum :smile1:

There are no products which will completely prevent colour transfer, unfortunately. Using either Collonil gel or water stop will help reduce the risk of colour transfer and make it easier to remove should you get any. It also helps if you avoid wearing clothes which are likely to cause colour transfer such as dark jeans and dark wool (I remember someone reporting colour transfer from their dark wool coat).
Personally I apply gel before water stop, if I am using both products.
Hope that helps?

Thank you ever so much for your reply!

Do you think it's only necessary to use both a spray and a gel, or will the gel suffice by itself? I've noticed that mulberry don't sell the spray anymore. Thanks for the advice re the jeans, in summer time they're usually lighter so i should (fingers crossed) be a bit safer!

thanks again :)

I tend to use the gel on very delicate leathers. The leather on the Bryn is fairly resilient, so unless you think it feels really dry (if that makes sense?) I would just use the waterstop. I have seen a few posts about colour transfer onto the flame so give it a good two or three coats... Don't forget it will need respraying, so if you're using it regularly I'd probably give it another spray every few weeks, just to maintain the protection.

Nearly forgot.... You can get the waterstop spray from both Amazon and ebay.... ;)

Do feel free to share pics of your Bryn with us on the which Mulberry are you carrying thread....

Hello lovely ladies :smile1:
Need a little bit of help from you as I have picked up a lovely Gerlinda bag which, although virtually unused, has been stored badly and smells extremely musty
What's the best way to try and get rid of the smell?

I think the best way is to hang it outside on your washing line as open as possible and obviously not in direct sun. Other things like spraying with air freshener or perfume just make it worse I think.

Thanks Athenia :smile1:
I put it on the washing line yesterday but unfortunately it's raining today so that's on hold for another day.
I found something about activated carbon possibly helping and as I keep tropical fish I had some in the cupboard so I've popped some in a mesh bag and placed inside to see if it helps.

Hi ladies
Anyone know how to restore colour, I have a blue Antony, it's a slightly lighter colour on the front, presumably from exposure to the sun. I have put colonell cream on it but wondered if there's any blue shoe cream could be safely used ?

Many thanks

It can work, but is very difficult to match the colour and even if you do match it, tends not to dye the leather, so will rub off. You could consider having it redyed if the difference is really bothering you. There are several companies which offer this service. I think there is a thread somewhere about it...

Oooo thank you I will look into it, it's not too bad at the mo but will be more noticeable in time with more exposure to the sun - unless there is something that will stop it from fading any more ?

You're most welcome.

Collonil waterstop spray has UV protection built in to it, so will help prevent further light damage. Keeping it stored away from direct light sources will also help.

Hope you can help ! I've purchased my first mulberry and waiting for it to arrive (it's preloved).

The handles are very dark but I got a real bargain for a bag I really really wanted. I'm hoping there is something that can help to lighten them up. Pictures are below ImageUploadedByPurseForum1433282801.927499.jpgImageUploadedByPurseForum1433282821.637044.jpg

Hi I know what I've done sounds drastic but it has worked on my NVT Leather Antony ---- the leather on the flap had become extremely soft and baggy and had lost its shape and some of its colour. I did some research and have ordered some colour restoring balm. For the shape and floppiness I soaked the flap in water (room temp) for an hour. (NOT hot water as this can shrink the leather) I then Stretched it a little to reshape it then let it dry naturally and ... Hey presto the leather is thicker and has the original shape back, looks like new. The rest of the bag is fine as is but I don't think I would soak the whole bag anyway in case I couldn't retain its original shape.
Soooo happy, will let you know if the colour balm works to restore the colour that has faded a little with the sun,
Love my bags, love Mulberry x
