Hi ladies-any advice for getting rid of smells in leather please? Possibly smoke, but just generally not a god aroma!
Thank you :smile1:

Bicarbonate Of Soda works for just about everything but how you would use it i dont know. Maybe put in a bowl or sock and place in the bag or sprinkle it inside if its possible ?.

Both of the above! My vintage black satchel lived in a bin bag with deep saucers of bicarbonate of soda (has to be freshly opened) for a couple of weeks and then had cut-to-size odour eaters in every pocket all summer. It also spent quite a lot of time hanging outside in the sunshine.

The smell was damp though (the old tartan lining) not smoke, but it's pretty much gone now.

This may sound like an obvious question but.............

I had a brown Seth which i loved because it was great for hands free running around, it didnt have to be babied and was fine in the rain. Now i really want an oak Seth. i am not sure how stupid this question is as i keep reading about oak bags and water marks but if the bag is treated with both gel and spray does that stop the rain from marking it and how wet does a bag have to get before it marks ?

I have a large oak Mitzy hobo and thats fine in the rain albeit different type of leather which must help ?.

I used odour eaters in my smoky Bays, wrapped in a binliner for a week. I hanged out my bag on the washing line when dry and breezy and have sprayed the inside with febreze. 3 months down the line and the smell has finally gone.

Do you just give it a light sparaying all over? Never used a protector before very new to this :smile1:

I usually give it 2/3 coats, let it dry in between. With some leathers it's more necessary than others...oak is notorious for needing to be "babied". Some forum members don't spray their bags at all though....personal choice as always.
