Hi everyone.
I recently bought my first mulberry bag - the bayswater in Oak. Today I noticed a small biro mark on the front. I got a damp cloth and tried to rub it off and made it so much worse - embarrasingly I burst into tears.
I called mulberry and asked for advise and they recommended the furniture clinic. I called the furniture clinic and he quoted me £75 + VAT + postage. I have done lots of googling today and they do seem to have glowing reviews. I did notice a few people saying they sell their product to remove pen stains - http://furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leather_Ink_Remover.php - has anyone ever used this product? Or has anyone ever had a biro pen mark on their bag and how did they get it off?
Thank you for any help / advice you can offer X:smile1:

I had an amazing result with tape recently. You just take a small piece of tape and you gently press it on the mark and then pull it off again. The ink sticks to the tape. Repeat until the mark is gone. The leather looks quite dry where the mark was. Apply some cream et voila!
This worked a treat on oak leather. Never tried it on painted, dyed leather though..... The paint might come off!!

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to deal with the scuffed corners on my oak NVT bayswater please? It's a year old and has been sprayed with Collinil waterstop spray a good few times.
Mulberry recommended I use the Collinil cream on any dry areas but I've also read on here about Clarks(?) and Woly cream in cognac for oak corners....
Which is best? How do I apply it? And in which order with spraying?

Also, can anyone recommend a good product to protect my handles from darkening? I remember reading on here once about a product just for handles but can't remember what it is!

Thanks very much in advance!

I mix Collonil and shoe polish(tan/light brown for oak); apply gently, wipe off excess and buff with a soft cloth(I use sheep skin/shearling). Repeat if needed, and finish with collonil only.

i was speaking to a colleague in the industry today who told me that furniture clinic have only been in the leather industry since 2005! no experience prior to that. Have to applaud what they have done to build the business, but makes me a little sceptical of sending my pride and joy bag to them.

you have to be very careful with biro and more importantly ink removers as they are usually a blend of pure alcohol and acetone. The untrained person can end up doing more harm than good with these products. Try a mild cleaner then gradually increase the strength of the cleaner you use until you get to ink remover. Only use a cotton ear bud and gently wip over the pen mark only, not around or bigger than the original mark. My suggestion would be go to a professional leather repair tech in your area and make sure they can tell you what type of leather it is before letting them loose! many techs cant even identify leather correctly.

Re the handles darkening question.
I follow the advise of the Queen Of Mulberry - Mulberryellie :hugs: .
Never use handcream - it is poison to leather and the oil in it causes the darkening .
I cream my hands at bedtime and never again in the day time and it works .

Hi all,

I'm a newbie, but looking through these helpful posts has prompted me to ask for some clarification before I launch a DIY cleaning mission!

I have a much loved 2 and a half year old Somerset Tote in Oak. I've probably used it pretty much everyday, and living in Manchester have been wearing my thick black coat everyday too. So, unfortunately, there is some dye transfer and discolouration on the side of the bag. I've seen some suggestions including baby wipes and gel cleaner. I'm going to try babywipes this evening, and then buy some gel cleaner if needs be. Is this the type of thing I should be looking at using? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collonil-Leather-Gel-recommended-Mulberry/dp/B003XNB14K

I did colonil waterstop spray it when I first got it, but should really have done it more regularly. Just want to get it back to a nice condition and then take better care of it.

I spoke to the furniture clinic, but at £150 that's just waaaay more than I can afford being a lowly intern!!

Any help much appreciated!

Hi I would try to avoid baby wipes as they can dry the leather / try either Lexol leather PH bal wipes, or Meltonian All Purpose ( I get mine from eBay posted from US), it's a great product and cleans, conditions and waterproofs... Even used it on all my vintage Hermes bags....
Good luck!

Thanks Kriscat, I will try that!
Slowhand, I rarely remember to put hand cream on at all anyway but that is good advice! Old looking hands are a small price to pay for a pristine Mulberry! ;-)
