I have an older jacket with Princess seams and multiple panels that I don’t think they would make today as it is too much work. I looked at the new black Metier jacket yesterday after this discussion began, and I was surprised at the number of panels in the back. I had to look at the lining as the tweed hides the stitching. That jacket is a great fit and only had minimal alterations.
An interesting observation for my earlier jackets, pre-2015, my sizing was 36, sometimes 38. For recent years, I am now mostly 34. And it has nothing to do with body weight as the earlier jackets still fit well, in fact they fitted better than the recent years’. Case in point the Paris-Byzance LBJ has the best fit and nicest shape of all. It gave me a waist! It seems the cut has gotten more generous or perhaps much to do with the looser, boxier shape/style of late.

My SA found this cardigan from pass season/last year, what do you think? Too plain nothing special? Should I get it?
This cardigan has no hanger appeal, it wears beautifully in person. It is what it is, a simple 3-ply cashmere cardigan but the satin arm band of a jockey’s silk is a homage to Coco Chanel’s passion for horse racing ignited by her lover, Boy.

On the number of back panels on jackets, mine are a random mix - from 1 to 8, earlier years to recent. The higher number of 6-8 panels included jackets from 2011A Paris-Byzance LBJ, 17S Robot, 20B short LBJ and 21C magenta.

21A jacquard LBJ has 4 and it has the thicker chain, which is also found in 15A black swing jacket that has one back panel due to the shape. The rest are regular chains.

Would like to believe it highly depend on the cut/style of the jacket but also won’t rule out cost cutting consideration due to Covid.
I totally agree, as this corresponds to my findings. Altogether, I found very simple three panel pieces (Front and back) in Karls Collections as well as 5 to 7 panel jackets in Virginies recent collections. Quality at Chanel was and is becoming more and more of an issue (already with Karl bwing still alive) also with RTW, which is just sad, as the designs suffer…

On a side note, I absolutely loved Karl‘s collections, especially those of the last three years, and was sure I would never again buy Chanel at the boutique, once his last collection was sold our. I was wrong. I love Virginies style and attitude, from my point of view she brought a feminity and fluidity to Chanel that I can relate to and which is a beautiful combination with Karl‘s jackets. And her latest Cruise show to me was just pure perfection. Need to win the lottery to buy it all;)

My SA commented that VV has improved the denim game big time. She understands female body better, and the jeans are hence more flattering. I never paid attention to Chanel denim pieces until the current Metier season so I'm curious what other ladies think.

i totally agree! I never bought denim pieces during Karl’s era and this year alone have bought two denim jackets from VV’s designs.

I wasn’t interested in the denim pieces during Karl’s time (taste and times over the last couple of years have changed me) so I can’t comment. I started looking at the jeans over a year ago and I do like some of them, obviously a flattering cut is crucial. I like how she has incorporated them into more designs instead of just the standard jeans and denim jackets.

There are some cute shoes in the Metiers printed denim fabric on the Chanel site. I’m not wearing much denim clothing these days. It feels too restrictive. Maybe when the weather cools.

Does anyone have any decent shots of the F/W denim? My SA sent me all the reserve photos but they are microscopic so I can’t see any detail. There wasn’t any denim on the runway either, but the SA did confirm denim pieces in the collection.

Hi everyone! I’ve been quiet on the thread but skimming through and catching up since I always appreciate everyone’s thoughts on collections. I got a chance to preview Act 1 today before the release and thought I would share as there are some really cute pieces and reasonable price points!

The skirt in the try on is super cute but didn’t think I would get enough cost per wear. This cardigan is so soft and cozy, it was instant love and came home with me

This cardigan is super soft and the buttons are so pretty, but a little flashy for me:

This cardigan coat was soft but not my style.

finally, I was really torn about this jacket. They only had one size up and one size down, and so I’m waiting to try my usual size, but not sure about the color if it washes out my complexion. But the tweed is really lightweight and the jacket is comfortable.

The first cardi is cute on you! Not sure about the peach jacket either.

I have this sweater and I love it! It's easy to wear, easy to pair, and details that make it more interesting than a basic black cardigan. The buttons are gorgeous and sleeve detail unique. Definitely a keeper from my perspective. Sorry I don't have any mod shots but I've worn it with dark jeans for dinner and with dress pants for the holidays. Hope that helps!
Thank you for your input, I just made an appointment with my SA to try the cardigan.
I always wanted a black Chanel cardigan, but not sure what I like.

It looks pretty on you. Definitely need to try it on. Didn’t know the story about the arm band, makes it more interesting. Thank you for the picture.

Thank you for these pics! You look great and they are super helpful! If you don’t mind my saying so, I have similar skin tone, and I kind of avoid peach bc it’s close in tone! But I do wear beige and etoupe, so perhaps that doesn’t really have any merit except personal preference
