I saw a clip last night of A Rod smiling (laughing? grimacing?) at Jennifer Lopez on stage and all I can see are teeth he wasn't born with. They are so distracting. Some people get the nicest veneers and many get denture look-alikes. Someone tell me why. Is it the ability of the dentist?

They are super white. I think his overly smooth face(Botox?) makes the teeth stand out more as well.

I think it's distracting because of the face he's making, how tan he is and yes the veneers are a white shade. ....but...the majority of people having veneers is to change tooth alignment, shape, color or any and all of those combinations. No one asks for yellow or non white veneers.

To me, it's not the whiteness. So many people have white teeth now, thanks to the drugstore.

I find his teeth and many like him, to be sitting wrong in his mouth. They're a bit thick or something. Too perfect and something is unnatural with the gum line.

I don't know why, but some celebrities have gorgeous veneers that look fabulous in their mouths and many others, like A Rod, have teeth that look like dentures.

Is it the ability of the dentist or the natural teeth of the patient that doesn't make the most realistic fit.

The ability of the dentist.
A great cosmetic dentist has to not only be a phenomenal dentist, they have to be creative and artistic. Great cosmetic dentistry is as much, if not more, art.

you'd think someone at his income level and his high profile would go to the very best cosmetic dentist

Oh good I thought I was the only one that didn’t like Arod’s smile. I was never sure why either, they’re straight and white. Who doesn’t like a smile like that. Too big for his mouth? Either way he doesn’t have a great smile. Jlo has a gorgeous smile.

Absolutely! All natural teeth have some imperfections...even the "perfect" ones. Same should go for veneers/crowns. Shape, color, length etc should be at the discretion of a good cosmetic dentist. What looks good on someone else may not be good for you. Also, spend the extra money and get porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers have a translucent quality much like natural teeth...not as flat looking as resin. JMHO
