Celebrity and Veneers

I got a quote at my dentist for $64k+ for a full makeover. I passed. But a couple of years later, I chipped my teeth running up the stairs with a bunch of takeout in my hands. I passed out at the top of the stairs and boom, landed on my chin. I only have 6 veneers on the top front teeth and it cost $22k. So worth it! I love them. Dr. Bill Dorfman.
glad you love them....how long will they last?

I have had them for 4 years and have not had any problems. Dr. Dorfman has guaranteed them. My daughter and husband also have had dental work done by him. My daughter has had bonding and whenever she has had problems, he fixes it for free. Dr. Dorfman will not do permanent veneers on anyone younger than 16. Since this is a celebrity thread, I have seen a celebrity or two in his office. My favorite sighting was Elon Musk.

I asked my Dad, a retired dentist about veneers and he said they have to file/grind down your real teeth (so it's irreversible). After I heard that I was like no thanks!
Apparently, there is a new technique now where they stick the veneers on the existing teeth.
See Kyle Richards
But yes, it is a lifetime commitment for most.

Sticking veneers on the existing teeth doesn't cause any damage? Seems like there should be some consequences to having your teeth glued to something for an extended time. I wonder if they'll see some damage no one expected after a few years...

I chipped my front tooth in the middle years ago and need to have it bonded every 7-8 years. I was considering have a veneer the next time. But my SIL had her tooth grinded down for a veneer and then the virus hit. She’s been without a tooth for a few months now. Thankfully it’s in the back.

So what is the reason behind getting a veneer/veneers vs. implants? Does it have to do with the condition of the original tooth? And what about caps? I know my husband has a disaster of a tooth and his dentist seemed to be against a cap and for an implant based on bacteria can get under a cap and rot the tooth and cause a lot of trouble. Can veneers do this?

As someone who has both caps and implants, I urge you to research implants. Depending on their location, they have a high failure rate.
I do not care for mine whatsoever and would have been better off with a crown imho.
My bank account would also have been much better off as well.

A couple months after I posted I broke one of my back molars. I got a cap and am really pleased with it. My sister broke the same back molar almost a year ago and her dentist said she had to get an implant so she did. She is VERY unhappy with it. Hers has what looks like a silver filling in the middle. Her dentist said that's the screw and he can't cover it. Is your implant similar?

Yes and food get stuck there all the time. I hate it.
plus it cost over 7k for one tooth. I left my dentist over the situation.
My new dentist says that the implant is failing and it is only a matter of time.
I now know why my neighbors who are dentists have the best house on the block. If you can even call it a house, it looks like a Marriott....
anyways...

This is so interesting. I always thought the implants were the Rolls-Royce solution, for both cost and quality.
I broke a molar about 6 or 7 years ago and shattered it down through the root, so a crown wasn’t an option. I had an implant and it’s fine, there’s a semi opaque white filling over the screw so you can only just see where it is. I haven’t had any issues with the implant, and the bone around it is solid. It gets x-rayed as part of my regular checkups. But it’s a fairly invasive procedure, and something to do as a last resort IMO not as the option of choice.
