Bag Insults - Ever Had One?

It's so strange to me, all this seemingly constant speculation about other people's money situations. I mean, why does everyone care so much? .

I think there are two reasons:

1) Some people can't really afford the price point bags they buy and friends/coworkers know it.

2) the same reason that some people refuse to have anything to do with fashion. They don't know how to do it, so they have to discount the whole concept and act like it is beneath them. I think in reality (at least sometimes) they feel insecure about it.

I've been told that my Coach bags were ugly and overpriced, and that they all look the same (uh, NO). One person even told me that they would never pay more than $20 for a bag. What's funny is that same person told me to hang onto a specific Coach I was carrying because she might want to buy it from me in the future. I don't know if she was expecting me to let go of it for $20, but if she was she can just keep steppin'! :cray:

LOL. I was in a similar situation, although this girl would never have the guts to admit that she wanted my bag. "Keep steppin!" -- Love it. :)

I think you're really on to something, Allisonfaye....the only thing is, if #1 is the case, then people shouldn't gossip/talk badly about someone buying bags out of their financial reach (ideally speaking), because it's really that buyer's issue....

I think you're dead on with #2.....Just...dead on! I don't know how else to say it.

I have close friends who would call my bags and wallets ugly in a joking way, not sure if that's their honest opinion since we do have pretty different styles. I'm not THAT offended because we're close enough and we jokingly insult one another all the time lol.

One time, though, after seeing my new wallet (while we were shopping together), one of my friends ran into the store from which I got the wallet, found it, and announced the price of my wallet to our group of friends (and in my presence, like 'hey your wallet was $xxx, right?). I was mortified! I mean I don't mind my friends knowing how much I paid for my wallet but for some reason what she did just annoyed me so much, it even felt obscene and distasteful :x

Another time, my other friend who previously insulted my new wallet (that same wallet) and said she didn't like the brand, etc (albeit jokingly) showed up two weeks later with her new wallet from *gasps* THE SAME BRAND! So I asked 'oh I thought you didn't like the brand?' And she was all 'yeah but my mum bought a bunch of wallets from them and I had to pick one so I picked the least ugly one.' (I know right?) And then proceeded to say something along the lines of 'although our wallets are from the same brand yours is ugly but mine is not'. Can you imagine how many times I had to roll my eyes that day oh god.

Ugh. Keep the nice wallet and ditch the ugly "friend." Lol! ;-)

Wow...I can't imagine anyone thinking that's an ok thing to do! Obscene and distasteful for sure! And the other friend seems weirdly jealous.

I get the whole "is that real?" thing ALL THE TIME. And then they follow it with "well you're asian we never know" wtf.
That is so unbelievably offensive! I'm sure if called out, it would be followed up with "I was just joking". So catty.

There is another type of situation that I get into with certain friends. I don't like acting all secretive when asked about my bags because it makes me feel like a snob so I'm usually okay with telling close friends how much I pay for stuff.

(Upon seeing my juicy bag)
Friend: how much was that bag?
Me: 500 but I got it on sale at half price!
Friend: oh I wouldn't pay more than 30 for a bag like that
Me: *fumes*

It annoys me because she was the one who asked how much it costed, it's not like I shoved my expensive purchase down her throat! It so rude to make comments like this when it's completely uncalled for.

I get that the bag is pretty expensive and it isn't immediately apparent that it was designer (the juicy hardware was on the back side of the bag). I don't want to respond with something rude or insulting but holy crap this kind of behavior drives me nuts! I don't care how much you are willing to pay 'for a bag like that', just keep your comments to yourself. It's not my fault you can't tell a designer bag from a non-designer one. Ugh.

I often get this when I see my friend, she always scold me of why I bother buy expensive authentic bag that nobody cares. And she always tell me stuff like "You should buy fakes bags because they are practical, you can never see the difference up close and people who buy stuff like that are just show off".

"You should buy fake bags" LOL.

You may be showing off your expensive bags but at least you're not buying cheap a** fakes and trying to show off but without paying the $$! Not to mention feeding an industry that has no respect for intellectual property and does not follow fair labour and trade practices.

This type of reaction from people is so annoying, especially in a country like mine where fakes are everywhere and people keep buying them all year long and blatantly wear them in public. I don't understand them! If you can't afford a designer item then raise money or simply wear something nice in your budget without being a copy and a joke to the work of these designers who worked all their life to create iconic pieces. I for instance have to raise money to buy something with a label but I would never wear fakes because I have appreciation and respect for the fashion houses out there. If I don't have the budget I work harder, I don't choose the easy way out. There is a saying in my country: I am too poor to wear crappy things! - fake things in this case -

Anyways back to the subject: God forbid to have a designer bag or a shoe...then you're a snob and condescendent with people...I don't even take notice of people who think that I'm a snob just because I like my money to be spent on a designer item rather than on a junk of stuff which I'll eventually throw because they are of questionable quality. Friends like in this case who think so poor of me I prefer not to keep. I'm very on edge when it comes to my friends and I only have by my side those who understand me as a person and who are not so superficial to consider me a nasty person just because I have an addiction to expensive purses & shoes. Also don't forget that luxury is not for everyone, you have to have good taste to know to appreciate it and enjoy it! :smile1:

Walked out of work and a coworker commented "She has -another- bag!"

At the store "I would never get the one with the huge CC on it!"

I don't think the cc turnlock is even that big on my bag. I could get bigger....

Bakeacookie, always be true to yourself and wear only what you like no matter what people say :smile1:...People are so mean and jealous nowadays...It drives me nuts

I often get the same slap as you but I care less. I just keep my chin high and mind my own business. Next time you should go bigger...just to annoy the crap out of them!
