Anyone familiar with Marla Aaron's jewelry?

I think MA does an amazing job of branding and styling a product that existed long before she came along, but she’s too litigious for my tastes.

There’s a lot of other iterations of her jewelry out there and that is not going to change. It’s versatile as hell, and other designers have caught on... if she thinks she will stamp out the competition, she is sadly mistaken. Especially if she keeps raising her prices. *shrugs*

LOVE this!!! Exactly, and that's why it pisses me off to no end that she is so darn litigious! She has threatened me and other Jewelers/Metalsmiths, and we've been around for some years. I finally told her to "bring it on" and sue me because I know darn well she won't win!

Frankly, I was shocked when I saw some of her pieces "in person"; they are not heavy at all and the prices are RIDICULOUS! I do mine in 18k, oftentimes loaded in Diamonds .. and I don't charge the prices she does!!!
It’s so annoying that one artist, who keeps reminding everyone via her Insta what a meandering path it was for her to get into jewellery business, it’s annoying that now that she’s being recognised she threatens fellow craftsmen! I like MA’s designs and find them interesting. Are they original - no! Nothing‘s original nowadays... Would buy more of her locks (have one in silver) or a di me ring if was more affordable but atm her prices are a bit ott for 14k stuff. If could find locks somewhere on Etsy I would definitely give it a go.

Started collecting MA pieces a few years ago, have really enjoyed playing with different lock and chain combos. I was shocked at the jump in prices recently- an opal charm I’ve been eyeing nearly doubled in price. I know gold prices went up, and these are luxury items and all, but whoa!

It’s getting pretty ridiculous, lol! Pretty sure she no longer sells anything under $100... The sterling baby lock is supposed to be a gateway piece, but all the other pieces (except for flimsy sterling chains) cost a lot more than the $80 price point she originally had that lock for...

She’s getting greedy :giggle: (I was looking for something not too expensive but her prices are ridiculous for the 14k gold and silver! So I’ll pass)

It’s hard to stomach when you know what the prices used to be, and I agree, especially for those silver pieces.

Well, sounds like the consensus is there are better deals to be had on this style of carabiner style jewelry. I’ve enjoyed playing around with some ones I’ve found on Etsy - the one in the picture below is from FactoryDirectCharms and I’ve been really happy with the ones I got there. But all the ones they sell are pave.

Since I just wear them for fun I don’t want to invest a lot in precious metals and stones. I just want to get a small plain one like a silver babylock. Can anyone recommend any makes/sellers? @CeeJay ? Has anyone bought from Etsy shop AngiraCrafts?

Well, maybe this thread shouldn’t be called just about “Marla Aaron” anymore...sorry if that’s not appropriate! But as an fyi for those interested in this style of jewelry....

I did order two silver locks from Etsy seller AngiraCrafts and am SO happy with the quality for the price. Both are stamped 925 and work perfectly. A uber-teeny-tiny lock (only 9 mm X 15 mm...smaller than Marla Aaron’s babylock!) and a ouroboros style snake-swallowing-tail with cute little green gem eyes!
