Any guesses or speculation for Hedi’s 1st collection?

Got to see and touch the new bags and re-releases of some of Phoebe Philo's bag designs in Paris a few days ago, and both the new bags and the "new old" bags look and feel very cheap - much cheaper than Celine under Phoebe Philo. They had a few pieces still left from the Phoebe Philo-era and the difference in feel and look is very noticeable.
Since yours is not the only opinion about lower quality leather it makes me think, was HS employed by the LVHM to cut costs which he doesn’t seem squeamish about? My impression is PP would never allow to have her collections sabotaged by lowering the quality of materials used.

I definitely agree that over the past few years there was probably some (if not a lot of) clashing between Phoebe and LVMH that finally led to her departure from the brand. Hedi, on the other hand, doesn't seem to care about that kind of thing at all. Before, when only having seen pictures of the "new old" bags (belt, big bag, trio, small cabas, sangle seau, etc.), they looked practically the same as before, which if you didn't care about the change in the logo, you could still purchase something you felt was from "old Celine". However, upon actually getting to touch the pieces, the difference was much greater than I initially expected. Coincidentally, there was an "old" cabas tote next to a "new" small cabas, and in feeling the old one first, I was not expecting that upon touching the "new" one, the difference would be so so obvious. It's hard to describe what the leather felt like but certainly not like something that would currently retail for the price it does. And the quilted bags looked just as bad in person as they do in pictures online.

That sounds so horrible! [emoji24][emoji24][emoji24]

This is super concerning! I’m no Céline expert, but I just ordered a micro and mini belt bag to compare the sizes. The micro came with the old logo and the mini came with the new one and I don’t notice a difference in quality. Maybe it’s hard to compare different sizes? I’m just curious what to look for.

Maybe its only for some of the less expensive bags such as the trio, small cabas, etc. - I didn't feel the "old new" box bag, belt big, big bag etc. so can't speak to those.

Walked by my local CÉLINE boutique today and saw they had the new 16 bag displayed in the window.

Since there was recently a discussion of differences in the leather of old vs new Celine bags, I thought I would share some new evidence/thoughts. I was able to compare mini belt bags with the old vs new logo and did notice several differences, although I'm not sure how to decide which is "better."

The leather on the belt bag with the old logo felt noticeably softer, while the leather on the bag with the new logo felt less supple. However, this also means that the new logo bag was definitely more structured and felt sturdier, and the old logo bag was softer, more pliable, and slouchier. The leather actually felt thicker on the new logo bag and the new logo bag seemed a bit heavier. I noticed this when comparing the straps too - the old logo strap was thinner than the new logo strap by a measurable amount. I also noticed a difference in the glazing. The glazing on the new logo bag seemed thicker and the glazed edges of the strap and handle looked more rectangular, while the old logo bag seemed to have more rounded glazing on the edges. A downside of this on the new logo bag is that the edge of the top handle felt sharper and kind of scratched my arm, while the more rounded edges of the old logo bag made the handle comfortable and soft on the arm. In terms of the interior, the old logo bag seemed to appear rougher while the new logo bag has a very smooth interior - basically, the old logo bag looks more like unfinished leather and the new logo is soft suede. The interior difference was really minimal though and maybe had more to due with the fact that the bags were also different colors.

Anyway, I'm curious if anyone has noticed similar differences or can share any thoughts!

I was able to feel the small cabas with the old logo and the new logo too. To my surprise, the leather with new logo felt softer to me. I am just curious, what made you think the small cabas leather with new logo was worse? As I am trying to decide which one to get. Thanks in advance!

Now that all of us have had some time to „adjust“ to the changes at Celine, how do you guys feel about the new bag designs? I kinda like the C and C charm bags, and if they were by a contemporary designer I may get one. However they still don’t make my heart sing and I wouldn’t pay the premium prices. As for the 16 bag, I still find this one extremely boring and it doesn’t even seem practical... but that’s just my opinion.

I noticed another difference! The clasps are shaped different and the clasps on the old logo bag are embossed with “Céline” while the new logo version simply says “Paris” on part of the clasp.

I have no idea why anyone would bother changing the clasps like this, as it’s fairly subtle. I like the old clasps better, but again, it’s minimal.

Thank you for so much this very detailed comparison! :flowers:

Ok upon further inspection, the new logo clasp does say “Celine” as well, it’s just on the other side. My mistake!

I am also trying to decide which version to get, but for the belt bag. I posted a comparison (above) on the differences I noticed but am wondering if someone more familiar with Celine can help me assess these differences in terms of quality. The new Hedi version seems to be more rigid and structured, which is a possible improvement to the slouching that seems to occur to the belt bags (??), but Phoebe's version definitely feels amazing and so supple. Unfortunately, my SA said the only pieces available (at Saks) in the old version of the belt bag are display pieces so I wouldn't be getting a new bag all wrapped up and without damage.
