Any guesses or speculation for Hedi’s 1st collection?

The classic box is just so much better.

Agree, it really stands out in the picture above when compared to the other two. Now that I get a better look at the triomphe, it basically takes the design of the classic box bag, and alters all the dimensions slightly but I think it looks cheaper than the box especially because of how the strap attaches to the bag and the strap itself. I think most people will like the design of the gold clasp itself but that's not even an original design, its just taking the exact same emblem of the original Celine and adding it to this bag.

Is anyone else unnerved by the new Celine ads? I saw this one on a billboard when I was in LA
Celine-FAll-2018.jpg

And it just left me thinking "Just who is this supposed to attract?"
2 super skinny, undressed androgynous and etheral people of questionable age that look so frail and seem like they'll fall apart if you touch them... It's a complete departure from what the Céline woman was, and also a return to some of the worst aspects of the fashion industry.

And let me be clear, I'm not trying to shame anyone here. Saint Laurent's messy, after-after party ads were sort of cool in a carefree young way, and American Apparel did far racier things in it's time, but these new ads are just... Weird. And not like real people at all.

This is the key point. It's so sad to see Céline's scope limited from your everyday modern woman to the rich and wasteful celebrity young. A brand for women by a woman now turned into something that clearly isn't what the majority of women want to be.

Also, how dull is it that Slimane is even reusing his Saint Laurent advertising aesthetic for Céline…

I think the Triomphe has potential but to me two things kill it:

1) The strap, how it’s attached to the bag, and the buckle — they cheapen the look.

2) The shiny shiny gold hardware. I would make it antique gold or brushed old to make it look vintage. That shiny gold actually cheapens the look imo.

I was playing with the Triomphe the other day and the body of the bag is designed flawlessly. The compartments are a much better use of the space than the Classic Box - so much easier to fill the Triomphe with your belongings without the bag seeming too bulky.

However, I completely agree with you. The strap detailing and the bright gold hardware is what kills the bag for me.

I finally had a chance to see the Triomphe today in the store. I don’t like it. Now that I was able to touch and feel the bag and the hardware in person, it just feels cheap to me, it doesn’t look like it deserves that price tag. I’ve also noticed that their SAs are really pushy...this is my local boutique and I have been going there since it opened, and this is the first time I actually felt that the SA is pushy!

I really like the internal compartment design as well. Its better than the box in this regard.

Although I love the box I will admit it is not flawless design. the clasp is fiddly to use, the brass strap fitting bites my shoulder and the strap eventually deforms the corners of the bag. I feel like the triomphe tried to address these flaws with the side strap attachments and more functional clasp but they didn’t put much effort into updating the strap design. I feel the gold colour clasp will improve with use (I also prefer the antique brass look). My problem is I’m not sure I’ll pay full price for a reissue. I’d be delighted with a vintage triomphe.... for 1/4 of the price...!

This is one of the biggest criticisms of Hedi and his work. His aesthetic screams privileged 'heroin chic', with lashings of rock-and-roll groupiedom. I've even seen it described as 'sexed up'. It might've been cool a decade or two ago but it really goes to show what kind of bubble he's living in. And 'sexed up' it ain't. Not by a mile.
