Anti-Coach snobs...ugh

Definitely agree. Buy what you like and don't worry about what anybody thinks. Seriously, a snobby comment says more about the person who said it, than it does about whatever brand they are trashing.

That being said, I've been in the process of selling off my entire bag collection which I had grown tired of. (They were mostly contemporary designers.) I had owned a number of Coach bags in the 80's and 90's but had drifted away. I figured I'd start completely over and only buy a small number of premier designer bags, each one perfect and to fulfill a certain purpose. So, I've spent a ton of time over the past few months looking at everything from Balenciaga to LV to Chanel to Givenchy and . . . I'm back to Coach lol. I've bought 3 in the last month or so. I'm back because I love the price point. I love the legacy line. It reminds me of my Coach bags from the 80's and early 90's. I'm back because I don't think the LV Alma (which I've been considering at $2,300 + tax) is 13 times better a bag than the Legacy Haley I just bought at $179 + tax.

This is me. Not the part about selling off my bag collection. Every time I come close to buying a designer bag, I realize I don't like them 5, 10, or 15 times more than Coach. The only LV I've ever liked is the Selene and it costs around $3500. At that price I would have to carry it 10 times more often than my Coach bags, which means I would have to get rid of most of my collection, which I'm not willing to do. My bags don't get used much because I have too many, but that is okay because they weren't super expensive.

I might still one day end up with an LV or a Givenchy or even a Chanel, but it's been hard to take the plunge after I read about the decline in quality and the huge mark-ups and all that. They are still beautiful bags and I enjoy looking at them. I enjoy looking at other people wearing them lol, but I tend to get bored after a couple of years with whatever I'm carrying so I don't think I'm a good candidate for those premier brands. I can't imagine carrying the same bag 10 years from now. It's just not me. :smile1:

So I was poking around the internet looking at random purse blogs and forums ( I know, I'm such a purse dork) and cannot believe how many women with LV bags, Hermes, etc actually look down on women who carry Coach bags. It's a little upsetting honestly to have a brand you love be reduced down to something carried by "ratchets and wannabes". Really? If you love a brand or even just one bag, what should it matter if its $10, $100, $1000 or whatever? I have a friend who could easily trade her bag collection ( she has at least one of each Premier brand bag) for a house and doesn't act like that. Has anyone else ever encountered that kind of snobbish bigotry?

I think it's silly to look down on someone because of what they choose to carry. To assume or judge anything solely based on the brand of bag someone has is stupid. I think most women in the Coach forum can afford LV if they chose to and most in the LV can afford to carry Hermes. It's all about budget and choice. I buy both Coach and LV and love both brands. I can't say that I'm 100% loyal to either one because I like both and don't feel like I have to choose. A bag for some women is a status symbol just as cars, homes, etc are. No bag or brand of any item I own defines me or my worth. The snobs don't upset me at all, I honestly feel bad for them. I personally love LV canvas and sometimes prefer it to leather. It's lightweight and durable and I think the prints are nicely done. I personally haven't had any quality issues with my LV's and I love them all. I also have my Coach bags and there are a couple more I'd like to add. Buy what you love and let others be ignorant if that's what they choose.

Yep!

Haha! In my mind I have a whole category of tPFer that I call CoachHaterz. There's a thread on the main page called Brands You Will Never Buy, and the CoachHaterz love to put posts in there like:

"I would NEVER buy ANYTHING coach!! I think it's tacky and low quality and the only people I EVER see wearing Coach are wannabe nobodys

But that's just my opinion...
Hope I didn't offend anyone! To each their own!
Xoxo!! :)"

I just roll my eyes. It's so ridiculous.

What's tacky and low-quality are their comments and outlook on life. If you build yourself up by tearing other people down, well...let's just say that's a definite sign of at least some serious self-esteem issues.

I don't judge people by their bags. I judge them by their words and actions.

...ok, and their outfits and leisure reading material. I'm only human.

Yeah I've seen those posts.

How about the ones who comment on threads here on the Coach forum and say things like...

"I would never pay $XXX for a Coach bag! "

LV monogram takes a hell of a beating on that thread too.

Haha! Ok, I'm with you on that especially the reading material.

For sure LV gets it, too. But I think I take more offense to the Coach comments because I have several Coach bags and no LV. Lol!!

i'm really glad op that you started this thread...I guess today, 9/11 I have a different perspective on a LOT of things...why people would spend time negating what others like is beyond me...these are BAGS people and even though they're beautiful and we love them and love talking about them, they are still, just bags...
when I started on tpf I had some lv and prada and coach and others, but, found myself getting caught up in all the hoopla of owning a "holy grail" bag, only to discover that for me, there aren't really any holy grail bags...I love a lot of them...as a matter of fact, I bought the saffiano e/w tote the other day and I have to say that if the name "COACH" wasn't on it? it looked EXACTLY like the LV saffiano leather bags, which I have to say I was able to purchase w/o the LV attitude..(and yes, I buy LV and get attitude when I go in which I don't understand...is getting attitude part of the premiere experience?)...
I think that you should buy what makes you happy and if people are stupid and insensitive enough to make a comment, let it just sit there...if you're quiet and just look at them? they may realize that they said something insulting and if they don't? who needs 'em?!
