I guess the snobbery can go both ways. A friend bought me a Coach bag as a present and I tried to return it to a regular Coach store in SF. She bought the bag at a Coach outlet store. This was quite a long time ago and I think the return policies have changed. When I tried to return the bag the SA knew right away it was a bag from the outlet. She looked at me like I was a homeless person begging and said in a very snobbish tone that this bag must be returned at the outlet since we do not sell this bag here. I took my bag bag and tried to leave with dignity. All the SA glared at me while I was leaving. I did not want to buy any more Coach bags for a very very long time. Plus at the time the selection was not appealing to me. Now when I go into the Coach SF with my Prada, Chanel or Celine bags in tow they all come running to try help me. I have grown to love Coach again since they are carrying the bags I loved way back when but why did they have to be so rude to me years back when I did not carry a designer bag? Sorry had to vent.

I don't own any premiere brands. I actually came very close to buying a preloved premiere bag a few days ago, but stopped myself once I read several posts about quality issues on that particular bag. Even in used condition that bag would've cost 2x more than what I pay for a brand new Coach, only to have nearly the same or possibly worse lifespan than I would expect of a Coach bag. It's not the first time I've come close to buying premiere bag and stopped myself because of complaints I've read.

At a certain point, with some premiere brands, you're simply paying extra for having a bag in that particular design. If that's worth it to you or you have the disposable income to pay for it, then that's great. I don't feel that purchasing an article of clothing or fashion accessory simply for a particular design is strange at all. But to me Coach makes the most sense for the budget I'm working with, and I believe in comparison with higher end bags you get a lot bang for your buck with Coach. If you havent considered Coach before, you really should.

But someday, when the time is right, I'll have my Paraty/PS1/Alexa. Along with my Coach. ;)

I have adored Coach for years. My mom got me into the brand. Back in 2010 or '11, I started expanding my interests and got caught up in the "premiere" thing. I now own a Chanel woc, a YSL clutch, Valentino, and Dior. But I have never looked down on or stopped buying Coach. I really can't stand all the anti-Coach comments I see on this site. Coach is a gorgeous brand. You cannot beat the quality and the prices. The range of styles, textures, and colors are all fantastic. I might love my little Chanel woc, but I still carry Coach with pride.

I'd take Coach, MK, RM to LV.. I just have this experience with LV.. Ever since I was a kid, it was always around.. My "abuela" (grandmother in Spanish as we call her) is obsessed with LV (She's 94 now and still an LV devotee) and so were her sisters and inner circle and she had so many of them, and I would always see them around her, my aunts but thankfully not my mom.. I grew up so tired of the brown caramel color and the print that every time I look at one now I would never want one... It's like how I remember when every woman was wearing Dior's Poison Perfume... Holy crap. Imagine being stuck in the middle between the Basque women in my family in the car all wearing the same perfume and bags, and then you get to the destination and everyone smells and has the same thing! WTF. Holy hell. Maybe it's one of the reasons that my least favorite color is brown and I can never ever stand Poison ever. My aunt although left me her vintage LV mini briefcase before she died and I of course treasure that, not cause it's LV but of her memory.

I don't care for premier designers. I've drooled over Balenciaga for years, but I can NEVER get myself to buy any of their bags, due to their severely high price point and ultra-delicate leather (I mean, who wants to carry a leather bag whose color is going to fade over time, even in the sunshine? And what's more, who wants to shop at their Bal boutiques, anyway? No refund, no exchange, just store credit? Not worth it). I don't care for Chanel and Louis Vuitton anymore. Their prices are outrageous yet the quality is going downhill. And $500-$1000+ for PVC? I'll pass.

I always wanted a Bottega Veneta bag, but by the time I can even afford to buy one, the bags will most likely cost the same amount as a new/used car. Forget that. I rather spend that money on designers like Dooney, Marc Jacobs, Coach, Kate Spade and Rebecca Minkoff. I hate it when women carry high-end bags and think they're so superior, I almost feel sorry for them.

I think i have a few cases... 1 is my colleague... always show off her chanel and lv bags...somehow she look dwn on me cos i did not own anyone of it... for me i used coach (just recently) and i have a gucci wallet...they live happily tgt...even if i have the money to purchase... i would rather save it for raining day due to recent quality issue w those brand.

And there is 1 gal who is my hubby frenz gf... she actually like to apple polish ppl who have luxury brand item...sigh~i dun understand why

Of all things.. i think cash is better than those bags... jus cos i nv had a luxury brand bags doesnt mean im poor n cnnt afford 1... is jus i cant bring myself to buy those poor quality bags at such a high price

I had a couple of LVs along time ago. Then recently I received my LV DE Speedy 30 for my wedding anniversary in June.

Well, I love it and it will always be in my bag collection, but its NOT the same as my Love for Coach!!!
I just got the Legacy Chelsea signature carryall, and I absolutely love it. I have 3 Coach bags and 1 LV...With no intentions of buying anymore LV!

I do agree with you OP about how some people down Coach. Like I always say, don't knock it til you try it :)

I don't look down on anyone for their brand choices. There are plenty of people who can afford LV, Hermes, etc but simply choose not to buy those brands. Just because someone doesn't carry a high-end brand doesn't mean they can't afford it. Everyone has different priorities, and different things that they choose to spend their money on. I've seen extremely wealthy people who dress in such an unassuming manner that you'd never think they are as well-off as they are.

Lol whatever. My lifestyle does not fit premier designer at all, actually i would feel downright silly carrying such a bag.
Most people who have to belittle others to feel better about themselves aren't all that anyway.

I agree. If someone has to belittle someone else to feel better about themselves, they're the one with the problem. It's actually really sad, and I feel sorry for those people.

Just wanted to reply that I loved the personal aspect of your post. Thanks for sharing this story; I can see the perfume & bags scene playing out like a flashback from a movie. LOL.

I mix my coach and LV as well. I also mix with vera Bradley.. Just buy what you like.

Same here. I have premier brands as well as contemporary brands, and there are things I like and dislike about both. In the end, I carry whatever I feel like carrying that day, and use whatever accessories make the most sense to me that day. Doesn't matter to me whether I carry a Coach wallet and Vera Bradley makeup bag with a Jimmy Choo or with a Coach bag. I like it all!

I have found that it seems to be LV buyers / collectors that are the worse offenders (in my reading experience).....and I can't understand what they have to be snobs of. They're paying very big bucks for coated canvas...........which is plastic covered fabric. :yucky:

IDK. They must think since they spend more on their bags than we do on Coach that they're better than we are.

I've actually found that a lot of women who carry LV (who aren't exclusive with the brand) also buy the higher end Coach bags (or Coach bags in general - like me!). I've always found the snobbery to be from Chanel carriers. Definitely Chanel store employees as well - I've made the mistake of carrying a Coach bag into a Chanel boutique and get treated like trash even when I'm making a purchase!

LV and Coach are my two brands, though. My closet is dominated by both, with a small side of Rebecca Minkoff and Gucci :D

I'm a Coach girl through and through. Always will be, even though I would love to have a Dooney Florentine. Ah, someday!
I don't notice anyone looking at my bags in any weird ways...and I really only notice other Coaches. I pay no mind to any of the premier brands. They just aren't my style. My 16 yr old daughter, however, would love to get her little paws on a Vintage Chanel Flap...and if I ever win the lottery, I will get her one in a heartbeat. ( She's kind of an awesome kid! )
